WEATHER: RAIN ON THE WAY

taree_weather_web

We’ve had a very warm week, ahead of a rain band that has already delivered record-breaking falls across parts of South Australia. Some locations have recorded their best April rain in 100 years of records. The cloud cover associated with this system could be seen in Newcastle and the Hunter today. Tomorrow it will spread further north and rain will start to fall Saturday night, before moving across the NBN broadcast region during Sunday. On Monday, an east coast low is expected to form and it could be a nasty one. East coast lows are at their most dangerous when they retrogress or move in a westerly direction back towards the coast once formed. The longer they sit on the coast the more damage they can do, especially if all its energy is released over one area, something that happens if ... Read More »

WEATHER: WEEKEND RAIN ON THE WAY

weathervallabeach

We’re experiencing some very warm temperatures across the region today. When it gets unseasonably warm you can almost guarantee some form a of a change is on the way. There is a mass of cloud making its way across the country at the moment. That high level cloud will start to steal the sunshine across the Hunter tomorrow. The cloud cover will spread north across the broadcast region during Saturday. A cold front will then collide with this warm, moist air, producing rain which will start to fall Saturday night. This will make for a wet Sunday for everyone. Widespread moderate to heavy falls are likely, very similar to Easter Saturday in fact. An east coast low is expected to form Monday into Tuesday, whipping up another big swell, strong winds and coastal rain. Read More »

WEATHER: A CONSISTENT WEEK AHEAD

This weekend we will see partly cloudy skies and a few brief showers roll in across the coast, as the inland areas of the Upper Hunter and North West remain dry. The winds will ease and the sun will shine warming things quickly through the day. There is high level cloud moving across the nation, shearing off Cyclone Ikola which is weakening quickly. Over the weekend the coast will also be affected by cloud thanks to light, onshore winds triggering a few isolated showers. Read More »

WEATHER: SATURATED SATURDAY BEFORE MARVELLOUS MONDAY

Terrigal

It was a very wet Easter at times, but as expected, it all blew over allowing us to dry out before the long weekend’s end. We squeezed in a great day before a big line of storms made its way across the west this afternoon. This is a pre-frontal trough. The front behind it has lots of cold air wrapped up in it. This will make sure the Autumn weather roller coaster stays on track. Get ready for some cold nights and cooler days. Once the front moves through we won’t see much rain. It will be clear and cool across the region until costal showers develop at the end of the week. Read More »

WEATHER: SEVERE STORMS

Flood water in Coffs Harbour

Severe storms caused flash flooding at Coffs Harbour this afternoon. Nasty storms and heavy down pours also affected Taree and the Manning. It was all connected to a fresh southerly that has been making its way up the coast. This southerly is finally strong enough to clear some of the heat from the North West, making for a comfortable, mostly sunny weekend inland. On the eastern side of the divide another burst of showers will track up the North Coast tomorrow. Another fresh burst of southerly winds will reach Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, triggering more shower activity. There is some new swell on the way, southern point breaks will be the pick. Swell from Cyclone Pam will arrive late Sunday into Monday. Read More »
