You’ve probably seen this next man around town. Today Claude Harvey was pounding the pavement in his quest to mow down child sexual abuse. Setting off from Tweed Heads, he’ll spend the next 14 days pushing his trusty lawn mower Moyra all the way to Hope Island. “This one’s 120 kays. But by the time I walk around some shopping centres and that, it could work out to be 200 kays.” It’s a long way, but Claude says he doesn’t get sore feet…and it keeps him young. ANOTHER WIN FOR SEAGULLS, ANOTHER LOSS FOR BEARS

The Tweed Seagulls have chalked up another Queensland Cup win, taking down the Sunshine Coast Falcons at Stockland Stadium yesterday. The Seagulls are fourth on the ladder, with only a few weeks left until the finals. Meanwhile the Burleigh Bears went head to head today with the Tigers. SEAGULLS’ SCORING SPREE AGAINST HUNTERS BUMPS THEM TO SECOND PLACE

In the QRL, the Seagulls went on a scoring spree against Papua New Guinea. Tweed led 32-nil going into the second half. The Hunters had a big finish, scoring four tries in a row before full time, but it wasn’t enough to overthrow the ‘Gulls, who are now second on the ladder. RSPCA ASSURES ANIMALS WON’T BE DUMPED IN WAKE OF CLOSURE

Tweed Heads RSPCA has assured locals its closure won’t lead to more animals being dumped in the region. Although rabbits are banned from the council pound, the RSPCA is promising there will still be somewhere for them to go. But one Gold Coast Councillor has another suggestion. “Have the rabbit taken to the local vet and have it humanely dealt with.” “There’ll be foster care program for rabbits. We also have an arrangement – an MOU with a local rabbit sanctuary, so we can still support rabbit owners.” The RSPCA closed on Monday due to zoning and funding issues. Read More »

GOLD COASTERS ‘TAKE A HIKE’ FOR AUTISM

Dozens of dedicated hikers are nursing sore feet tonight, after making a 40-kilometre trek from Tweed Heads to The Spit, to raise funds and awareness for autism. More than 30 people participated in AEIOU’s “Take a Hike” marathon walk, aiming to raise $75,000 for families with autistic children. “It’s really nice for them to be able to have support behind them from community members.” The walkers were up at 4am – but they say it was definitely worth it. TWEED SHOOTING SHROUDED IN MYSTERY

A Tweed shooting victim is staying tight-lipped about the reason he and his brother were walking along a bush track early on Monday a week ago. The 26-year-old has now been released from hospital, after a bullet fired from a dark coloured car went straight through his right buttock. Bullet casings were found at the scene, just off the highway in Tweed Heads West. Police are yet to confirm if there are any links to bikies, or whether the shooter was known to the victim.
