DRIVER KILLED IN PACIFIC HIGHWAY HEAD ON

A 67-year-old man died in a crash near Taree early this morning. Police were called to Henry Hawk Eye Bridge at Dumaresq Island on the Pacific Highway where a southbound Holden sedan had collided head on with a truck. The 67-year-old was trapped in his car and died at the scene. The truck driver wasn’t injured. Northbound lanes of the highway were closed as police investigated the cause of the crash. Read More »

ENERGY MINISTER SUPPORTS PROJECT REVIEW

The state’s energy minister has supported calls for a review of TransGrid’s $100-million proposed electricity upgrade from Stroud to Lansdowne. Myall Lakes MP Steve Bromhead wrote to the minister in April, to express concern about the scale of the project. Mr Bromhead called for the upgrade to be looked at again after new electricity demand forecasts are released in a few weeks. Local community groups have welcomed the announcement. Read More »

MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD GROOMING

Police have charged a 51-year-old man at Gloucester with child grooming after police posed as a teenager on-line. Police yesterday executed a search warrant at the man’s home, after an undercover police officer posed as a 14-year-old girl and engaged in online conversations with the man. It’s alleged the conversations were sexually explicit, and that they organised to meet. He was charged with using a carriage service to procure a person under 16 and use of a carriage service to groom a person under 16. He was granted conditional bail and will appear at Taree Local Court in May. Read More »
