Police are appealing for information after a Taree service station was robbed overnight. At around 10 o’clock the attendant at the Victoria Street business was threatened by a man, who demanded cash. MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY COMMITTING INDECENT ACT

A 63-year-old man has been charged after allegedly committing an indecent act in front of a child at a service centre near Taree on the weekend. It’s believed members of the public contacted Police when the man started acting suspiciously around children. He was refused bail and will appear in Taree Local Court on Tuesday. Read More »

LUCKY ESCAPE FROM CAR FIRE

There was a lucky escape for six people near Taree this morning,¬†after the car they were travelling in was engulfed by flames. Members of the group – including a 16-year-old boy – were on their way to Armidale for a charity bike ride, when they saw flames at the back of the Mercedes four-wheel drive. They pulled over on the Bucketts Way, and thankfully escaped uninjured… but the same can’t be said for the vehicle and its trailer. Read More »

UPGRADE COMPLETE OF WINGHAM ROAD AT TAREE

Work has now completed on Wingham Road at Taree. The work started in November to provide wider travel lanes and road shoulders, set to improve safety. “The NSW Government provided $213,000 under the REPAIR program, which provides road improvement funding to councils, to upgrade this section of road in Myall Lakes,” the spokesperson said. The work is part of more than $17 million NSW Government funding allocated to improve roads and infrastructure in Myall Lakes this year. Read More »

DOZENS OF CANNABIS PLANTS SEIZED FROM MID NORTH COAST PROPERTY

Police have seized cannabis worth more than $270,000 from a property, north of Taree on the Mid North Coast. Around 10am yesterday, officers searched a home at Kundle Kundle. It’s alleged 135 cannabis plants were found growing on the property, while police also claim to have found 25 grams of dried cannabis leaf at the home. A 50-year-old man is facing drug cultivation and possession charges. He’s been granted conditional bail and will face Taree Local Court on March 24. Read More »

BAYLISS TO MAKE A COMEBACK FROM RETIREMENT

Seven years after he retired, three-time world superbike champion Troy Bayliss will hit the track once again. The former Taree local has been called up to replace injured Ducati rider, Davide Giugliano, in the world superbike races at Phillip Island this weekend. The 45-year-old last raced on the track in 2008, when he claimed his third championship. Practice for the 22-lap race begins tomorrow. Read More »

POLICE SEIZE DRUGS AND CASH IN TAREE

A 36-year-old Wingham man is facing several drug-related charges, following a search of a storage unit in Taree. Officers attached to the Manning-Great Lakes command allegedly seized almost three kilograms of cannabis during their search yesterday afternoon, which they say is worth an estimated $23,000. Police allegedly also found more than $35,000 cash. The man is due to face Forster Local Court today. Read More »

SYDNEY UNI TAKES OUT TAREE SUMMER REGATTA FEATURE RACE

Sydney University took out the feature race at the Taree Summer Regatta over the weekend. The Mixed A Grade Eight final was hotly contested by five crews, with Sydney and Glebe rounding out the podium. The home club finished the regatta with a win in the men’s masters quad scull and single scull, C Grade single scull, and the women’s masters coxed four. While there was no overall winner named, Sydney Rowing Club fared best on the water, accumulating 253 points in total. (NO AUDIO) Read More »
