KOORI KNOCKOUT KICKS OFF IN RAYMOND TERRACE

Still on league and the 44th annual Koori Knockout is underway at Raymond Terrace. Today’s action featured the start of the open women’s division, as well as the under 17’s, 15’s and 12’s. Almost 100 teams from across New South Wales are taking part, representing traditional Aboriginal tribal regions. MUSTANGS WIN GROUP 3 GRAND FINAL

Macleay Valley has claimed this year’s Group-3 Rugby League premiership, after a thrilling win over Wauchope at the Lank Bain Complex this afternoon. The Mustangs led 18-14 at the break, before the two sides went try-for-try in the second half. At full time, the scores were locked at 24-all. MUSTANGS APPEAL SUSPENSION

The Macleay Valley Mustangs will appeal Group Three’s decision to suspend player, Nigel Hookey at a hearing in Coffs Harbour on Saturday. Hookey has been banned from Country Rugby League for five years after allegedly threatening a referee at a semi final match two weeks ago. The Mustangs say Hookey has been wrongly accused, and that a person outside the club made the threats. They say the incident has been dealt with unfairly and that there are witnesses who can testify.
