FALLOUT CONTINUES FOR TITANS

The NRL has reportedly taken over ownership of the Gold Coast Titans, as the club struggles to deal with drug allegations against five of its players. NRL CEO Dave Smith is expected to make an announcement when he fronts a media conference alongside Titans CEO Graham Annesley at 1.30 this afternoon. It comes after Greg Bird, Dave Taylor, Kalifa Faifai Loa, Beau Falloon and Jamie Dowling were issued with court notices to face drug supply charges. They have been stood down, pending their court appearances over the next two weeks. The club, which is without a major sponsor, has also been forced to abandon its training base at the Southport School following the allegations. Read More »

THE BLUES TO RETURN TO COFFS HARBOUR

In a coup for Coffs Harbour, the New South Wales rugby league team will return to the region to train ahead of this year’s State of Origin games. The Blues will stay in Coffs Harbour in the lead up to all three matches, including game two in Melbourne, as they aim for back-to-back series titles. The change in training location last year is credited with helping the Blues break an eight-year series losing streak. The state government has also announced it will offset some of the cost of the team’s travel, accomodation and training expenses, but wouldn’t say how much. The matches will be played on May 27, June 17 and July 8. Read More »

MUSTANGS REQUEST FOR INCLUSION IN GROUP 3 REJECTED

Despite numerous appeals, the Macleay Valley Mustangs will not be playing in the Group Three rugby league competition next year. The decision was made final at ON Sunday night’s Group Three AGM in Wingham, where the request for inclusion was rejected by the General Committee of the Group. The Kendall Blues’ request to join the 18 half grade was also rejected. The preseason competition will kick off on March 14, with seven clubs taking part. Read More »

Half back, Anthony Cowan won highest point scorer after accruing a total of 162-points for the Macleay Valley Mustangs this season. While Wingham’s Stewart Baker was awarded coach of the year.
