NEWCASTLE RUGBY LEAGUE Round 12 SOUTHS 28 – LAKES 8 WESTS 38 – PORT STEPHENS 22 KURRI KURRI 54 – CENTRAL 6 In the Real NRL Souths beat Lakes, Wests got home against the Sharks, while Kurri smashed Central. The Bulldogs got the ball rolling as the halves set up Scott Dunn for the opener. Lock forward Ben Wyborn then produced a solid solo effort to grab Kurri’s second. When George Ndaira and Mark Khierallah combined, the visitors were in control. Centre Damien Walters showed plenty of brute strength down the left to score his first. EELS LEGEND LUKE BURT PRETTY IN PINK FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Parramatta legend Luke Burt came out of retirement for one last game, raising money for breast cancer research. Playing for Dudley in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley Second Division, Burt wasn’t holding back after coming off the bench. The sign on the hill said it all, as everyone got into the spirit, even the beards looked pretty in pink. Burt’s jersey will be auctioned off at the Ocean View Hotel tonight, adding to the $6000 already raised by the club. Read More »

BULLDOGS PUT MORE HURT ON THE SEAGULLS IN THE REAL NRL

Kurri has edged closer to the top five with a win over Lakes, a simple backline move ended with Mick Campton easing over. The Bulldogs had several chances to extend their lead, but it took a big effort from Peter Cronin to make the score 12-nil. Nothing was going right for the Seagulls, their best effort was ruled out because of a forward pass. BUTCHER BOYS SLAY THE SEAGULLS IN NEWCASTLE RUGBY LEAGUE

Just one game in the Real NRL today because of the weather and it was Central who outclassed Lakes, Tom Morton crossing for the first try. The slippery conditions made points hard to come by, but Ryan Walker did it easy. Despite plenty of tension, both teams were obeying league’s no punching rule. Shortly before the break, Lakes were on the board, Jay Sullivan setting up Matt Bridge. The rain continued to tumble and soon the cricket pitch resembled a swimming pool.
