SOUTHS BELT SCORPS IN THE REAL NRL

Souths have jumped into the Real NRL top three thanks to a 36-nil win over Macquarie. There was drama shortly after the kick-off when Scott Briggs was sent to the bin for fighting. The tension only grew as both sides struggled to complete their sets. Lachlan Fitzgibbon finally made the breakthrough for Souths midway through the half. Briggs and Fitzgibbon combined to double the visitors’ lead after half an hour. Just before the break, winger Ryan Pywell crossed to give Souths a 16-nil lead. Round two of the Real NRL has wrapped up, with Wests completing an impressive comeback to beat Central. The Butcher Boys made a perfect start when Dean Macbain crossed in the opening minutes. Central was in again when Josh Allison kicked for himself, taking the score to 10-nil. But that’s where the fun ended, as Wests regrouped. NEWCASTLE RUGBY LEAGUE Round 1 MAITLAND 30 – CESSNOCK 16 WESTS 26 – KURRI KURRI 12 Maitland has produced an impressive second half, to beat Cessnock in round one of Newcastle Rugby League. In today’s other game, Wests won the grand final replay against Kurri. The Rosellas dominated the first half and it didn’t take long for Simon Williams to burrow over. Kurri’s Ryan Heath did well to defuse a James Woolford bomb, under plenty of pressure. But the Rosellas still found a way through, as Williams teed up Callan Richardson for the visitors second.
