WESTS HANG ON TO BEAT SOUTHS IN REAL NRL

One game today to wrap up round two in the Real NRL and it was Wests beating local rivals Souths 22-16 at Harker Oval. Coming off the back of a big loss to Cessnock, the Rosellas made a great start, as Jade Porter handed off to Peter Mannion, who still had work to do. Wests then doubled their advantage as Porter did all the work himself from close range. The score blew out to 18-nil when five-eighth Steve Gordon exposed some soft Lions’ defence up the middle. MAITLAND SNEAK HOME AGAINST CENTRAL IN THE REAL NRL

In the Real NRL Maitland snuck home against Central by two points to complete round one. Central drew first blood through Dain Bamblett, after a move that went through several sets of hands. The Pickers responded as Ethan Cook combined with Josh Allison. Cook then put Allison through a gap and he did the rest, as the visitors hit the front and Allison had a first half double. Down 10-6, the Butcher Boys hit back. Jordon Worboys got Central on level terms from dummy half. Shortly before the break, Bamblett grabbed a hard-fought second try. CESSNOCK BEATS SOUTHS TO QUALIFY FOR THE REAL NRL DECIDER

In the Real NRL, Cessnock will face Wests in next Sunday’s grand final, after winning a thriller against Souths today. The Lions raced out of the blocks, Jason Strickleton with the first try. Cessnock hadn’t touched the ball when Teason Faavae-Eli made it 10-nil. Potentially playing against his future club, Riley Brown reduced the margin for the Goannas. The comeback was complete, as Brendan Williams made it 10-all. Joel Brown gave Cessnock its first lead in the second half, before Brad Russell tied things up for the Lions.
