FOUR INJURED IN RAYMOND TERRACE CRASH

Four people have been injured in a car crash at Raymond Terrace overnight. At around midnight, a white Toyota Camry crashed into a pole on Parkway Avenue. Four people, including two men, a woman and a teenage girl, were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. A 53-year-old man is reportedly in a critical condition, while the 25-year-old driver will undergo mandatory blood and urine testing. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. SERVICE STATION WORKER THREATENED DURING HOLD-UP

A service station worker has been threatened by a masked man wielding a hammer, during a hold-up in the Hunter. Around 1:30 this morning, the bandit smashed a glass door at the Caltex on Richardson Road at Raymond Terrace. He demanded money from a male attendant, before running off with a small amount of cash. Police say the thief was wearing a dark t-shirt, grey pants, and had his head covered with a white cloth. (VISION ONLY) Read More »

MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGED ATTACK ON BUS DRIVER

A 28-year-old Waratah man has been charged after he allegedly attacked a bus driver in Raymond Terrace. Just before 6pm yesterday, the 44-year-old driver spoke to two passengers about their use of offensive language during a trip from the Hunter Valley to Port Stephens. One of the men got off at the next stop in Raymond Terrace. When the driver asked the second man to leave, he was allegedly punched and hit over the head with a full bottle of alcohol. Police say the man continued to assault the driver after he fell to the floor. He was chased to Parkway Avenue before officers arrived. It’s alleged he also threatened them with a knife, but dropped the weapon after police drew their gun. The man is due to face Raymond Terrace Local Court today. Read More »

RIDING FOR THE DISABLED ROBBED

Heartless thieves have stolen from a Hunter non-profit organisation that provides a special service for the disabled. On Sunday night the thief took around a month’s worth of feed from the Riding for the Disabled complex at Raymond Terrace. Caretaker Phil Hudson made the discovery on Monday and says it was only a few bags, but a pretty low act all the same. Riding for the Disabled provides therapeutic riding instruction and horse management skills for people with disabilities. Read More »

GRAIN TRUCK OVERTURNS ON THE PACIFIC HIGHWAY

The driver of a grain truck, which overturned on the Pacific Highway north of Raymond Terrace, reportedly had a ‘sneezing attack’ before crashing into a concrete barrier. The incident occurred just after midday near Medowie Road, sending around 30-tonnes of chicken feed across the road. No-one appears to have been injured. Both northbound lanes were closed for more than two hours, with one re-opening to traffic a short time ago. Diversions are in place, but drivers are warned to expect delays. Read More »

KOORI KNOCKOUT KICKS OFF IN RAYMOND TERRACE

Still on league and the 44th annual Koori Knockout is underway at Raymond Terrace. Today’s action featured the start of the open women’s division, as well as the under 17’s, 15’s and 12’s. Almost 100 teams from across New South Wales are taking part, representing traditional Aboriginal tribal regions. The open men begin tomorrow, with the defending champion Newcastle Yowies taking on Murrumbidgee. Read More »

12-YEAR-OLD PLEADS GUILTY TO LIGHTING BUSH-FIRES LAST YEAR

A 12-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to lighting two fires, that destroyed thousands of hectares of bushland north of Newcastle last year. The blazes at Raymond Terrace and Heatherbrae caused evacuations and led to the closure of Newcastle Airport. The boy, who was 11 at the time, will be sentenced in July. Read More »

RAYMOND TERRACE TAKES OUT GRADE ONE PENNANT

They won their first Grade One Pennant in 2012 and today the Raymond Terrace Jets claimed the title again, beating Soldiers Point in the Newcastle District final at Lambton Bowling Club. With Australian representative Mathew Baus leading the charge, the Terrace skipped away to a 12-7 lead after 10 ends. Soldiers Point’s Terry Antram answered the challenge, helping to get his side back to within one point, down 35-34 midway through the decider. But with the Jets Jason Stokes leading his quartet to a 21-18 victory over Jason Pietraszek’s men, the Grade One Pennant was heading back to Raymond Terrace. Read More »

FATHER CHARGED IN CONJUCTION WITH UNDERAGE MARRIAGE

A 61-year-old Raymond Terrace man has been charged following further investigations into the marriage of a 26-year-old man and a 12-year-old  Newcastle girl. The father of the now 13-year-old girl was arrested at Raymond Terrace Police Station around 9am today by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad who have lead investigations into the case. After being interviewed by police, he was charged with accessory before the fact to sexual intercourse with a child between 10 and 14 years of age and procurement of a child under 14 years of age for unlawful sexual activity.
