WEATHER UPDATE: CLASH OF THE WEATHER GODS

Things are set to become very interesting in the meteorological world. In the mid latitudes we are influenced by two major weather forces. Tropical warmth and moisture from the north. Cold, dry air from the south pole. When the right atmospheric set up occurs these two forces come together and results are usually dramatic. Warm moist northerly winds will pick up speed on the surface tomorrow while over our heads cold air will start to move into the upper atmosphere. This will create a large area of instability stretching across Central west QLD, NW NSW to the Hunter Valley. WEATHER UPDATE: FOLLOW UP RAIN TO COME

It was a good weekend for rain across the Central Coast, Hunter, NW and MNC with widespread falls of 20 to 30mm. Today the rain has eased but the patchy cloud cover lingers. The NW moisture feed is going to remain open thanks to a stalled trough. Tomorrow the cloud blanket will thicken back up across the NW and patchy light showers will turn to patchy rain periods building to moderate falls on Wednesday with isolated areas of heavy rain. Rain on the eastern side of the ranges is going to be very small. It will be the same for the Hunter with only limited falls likely. LOW WATER LEVELS SPARK RESTRICTIONS AND ALGAE BLOOMS

RECENT RAIN PROMPTS HEALTH WARNINGS

The region’s recent rain has prompted health warnings, following an increase in mosquito numbers. Hunter New England Health says there have been five confirmed cases of Ross River Virus and Barmah Forrest infections. Public Health Physician, Dr David Durrheim, says symptoms for the viruses include a fever, skin rash painful joints and tiredness. Read More »

WEATHER UPDATE: MORE STORMS, MORE RAIN

It’s been another active day of storm development for NE NSW and SE QLD and we can expect more of the same tomorrow while it remains fine and mostly sunny for the Hunter and NW to the Plains. A change is going to move up the coast on Friday and the wet weather is going to move back to the south affecting the Central Coast, Hunter and MNC intensifying on Saturday. The system will then grow as tropical moisture surges in from the north. This will help spread the rain inland with moderate to heavy falls possible as more storms develop affecting much of the broadcast area. The whole system will clear by next Tuesday. Read More »

WEATHER UPDATE: MILDER WEATHER

Milder temperatures are settling across the Hunter and Mid North Coast thanks to NW to NE winds. Sadly the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers is still plagued by intermittent showers while the NW remains dry when it would love some rain. Rain will arrive on Sunday with a passing front. All locations will be affected by this next system taking until Tuesday morning to clear from the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers. Until then enjoy the milder, mostly sunny skies. Read More »
