NEW BOARDWALK FOR LIGHTHOUSE ROAD

Enjoying the views from Tacking Point Lighthouse will soon be a lot safer, thanks to a new 52-metre boardwalk. The $100,000 concrete walk way is a joint project between Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise. The Lighthouse Project Committee says sightseers are currently forced to share a narrow stretch of road with cars. “It’ll provide much safer walking pathway for people who, local residents particularly and other people who are walking to the site” The boardwalk should be complete in four weeks time. BLUES & BBQ FESTIVAL RETURNS TO PORT MACQUARIE

There’ll be plenty of sizzle and smoke this weekend, when teams compete in the second annual Blues & BBQ’s Festival in Port Macquarie. The two day event will feature the Australian Barbeque Wars, which is the largest competition of its kind in the southern hemisphere, as well as a strong line-up of blues bands. This year, facial hair will also be heavily scrutinised in the inaugural Beard and Moustache Championships. Entry to the event is free and starts on Friday afternoon at the Town Green. Metres of silky locks were given the chop in Port Macquarie on Tuesday, all in the name of charity. A team of nurses and staff from the Port Macquarie Private Hospital braved the clippers to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation, as part of the World’s Greatest Shave. “We had four girls in the last 12 months go through cancer of various forms and we just wanted to support them” Together the team’s raised more than $8000 in donations, proving bald really is beautiful.
