MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

A man, who allegedly set fire to a Central Coast home with three children and three adults inside, has been charged with attempted murder. The six people managed to escape unharmed last Friday, but the house suffered extensive damage. A 68-year-old man was arrested at Wyong Hospital on Sunday, where he was being treated for burns to his feet. He’ll face court at a later date. Read More »

Police are appealing for information after a Taree service station was robbed overnight. At around 10 o’clock the attendant at the Victoria Street business was threatened by a man, who demanded cash. He then drove from the scene in an older-model red Camry or Falcon. He’s been described as having an athletic build, wearing a pale jumper and grey cargo pants. Read More »

MAN CHARGED WITH SUPPLYING GUNS

A member of the Comanchero motorcycle gang has been charged with supplying unregistered firearms on the Central Coast. Police allege he sold a .357 Magnum revolver to a person at Norah Head earlier this month, as well as organised the sale of a .22 pistol. The second transaction didn’t go ahead. On Wednesday, detectives from the police gangs squad searched a home at Toukley and allegedly seized a stolen motorcycle. A 27-year-old man was arrested at the address on Saturday. BELMONT WOMAN CHARGED WITH FRAUD

A Belmont woman has been charged with fraud after she allegedly faked having a terminal illness for financial gain. Police say the 31-year-old falsified a certificate from a Sydney doctor, claiming she had ovarian cancer, and set up an online fundraising page for medical treatment. It’s alleged she raised more than $2,500. The woman was issued a court attendance notice yesterday. She’ll appear before Belmont Local Court on June 3. Read More »

MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG AND FIREARM OFFENCES

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Belmont woman Carly McBride, have charged a man with drug and firearms offences. At around 12:30pm yesterday, Strike Force Karabi executed three search warrants in Scone and Muswellbrook. Police allegedly found three firearms, a silencer, methamphetamine and more than $5,000 cash. A 24-year-old man was charged with 13 offences and will appear before Scone Local Court today. Police have stressed the charges do not relate to the ongoing investigation of Carly McBride, but say they came about as a result of that investigation. The 31-year-old mother was last see on Calgaroo Avenue at Muswellbrook on September 30 last year. Police hold serious concerns for her welfare and are investigating a possible homicide. Read More »

WOMAN’S BODY FOUND IN MAITLAND FLOOD WATERS

Police divers have recovered the body of an elderly woman, whose car was swept into flood waters in Maitland. At around 9am yesterday, emergency services were called to Cessnock Road near Gilleston Heights. Four people entered the water to assist, but had to be rescued themselves. The search – involving police, Fire and Rescue New South Wales and the SES, continued throughout the day – until the car was located at around 6pm. Police had been told two women were in the car, but divers found no evidence that a second person was inside. Read More »

MID NORTH COAST MAN ARRESTED BY DETECTIVES

Bill Spedding has been taken by detectives from his Mid North Coast home. The 63-year-old was arrested by a police strike forceat his Bonny Hills property. It’s expected he will be charged with offences relating to the alleged sexual assaults of two girls, aged three and six, in 1987 in Sydney. Read More »

MAN CHARGED OVER THE INDECENT ASSAULT OF A TEENAGER

A 49-year-old man has been charged over the indecent assault of a teenage girl in Belmont South. At about 1pm on Saturday, a 17-year-old was fishing with her two siblings – a boy and girl aged 14 – at Cold Tea Creek, when a man approached them. Police have been told the man spoke to the trio, before the teens returned to their car. He followed them, before allegedly indecently assaulting one of the girls. POLICE SEARCH HOME OF ESTRANGED HUSBAND

Police are searching the home of John Edwards, the estranged husband of missing Grafton teacher Sharon Edwards. Forensic Services Group, a cadaver dog and officers are on site, and have removed some electronic equipment from the house. A separate search is being conducted at Mrs Edwards’ home in Grafton. It’s part of the ongoing Strike Force Burrow homicide investigation. Mr Edwards appeared in Grafton Local Court this morning, on six unrelated firearm charges. Read More »
