TWO CHARGED AFTER ARMED HOLD UP

Two teenagers have been charged and another man is on the run, following an attempted armed robbery at Cardiff last night. Three men, armed with a knife and sledgehammer, entered the Iron Horse hotel on Main Road just before midnight and allegedly threatened an employee. The group was unable to get cash from the safe and fled when police arrived. An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were arrested a short time later and charged with intent to rob while armed with an offensive weapon. They’ll face Toronto Local Court today. Read More »

Police have released CCTV images of a man they’d like to speak to, in relation to a suspicious fire at Erina last year. The blaze caused extensive damage to seven businesses at a retail complex on Karalta Road on November 16. Fortunately no-one was injured. SINGLETON CRASH CLAIMS TWO LIVES

An 18-year-old woman has died in hospital, following a car crash south of Singleton on Saturday afternoon. The woman is the second victim, with a 16-year-old girl also losing her life, when the Toyota Camry they were travelling in left the Golden Highway at Whittingham and hit a tree. The 18-year-old was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, but died yesterday afternoon. Local police are assisting officers from the Crash Investigation Unit to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. Read More »

Newcastle police have stepped up their fight against illegal drag racing, blocking access to known ‘hoon’ hotspots across the city. Last night officers joined Roads and Maritime Services in locking down Kooragang Island, the Steel River Industrial Estate and Wharf Road at Nobbies Beach. The move forms part of Operation Hammer, which aims to crackdown on dangerous driving. “We will continue to deploy police to block access to the known street-racing strips and ‘burn out’ locations until these drivers realise they are not welcome here,” said Superintendent John Gralton. “If we catch them breaking the law, they risk not only a substantial fine and possibly a criminal driving record, but potential deregistration of the vehicle.” Read More »

LUCKY ESCAPE FOR TRUCK DRIVER

A truck driver had a lucky escape on Wednesday night, after the wheels on the heavy vehicle he was driving caught alight on the Oxley Highway. The 38-year-old Hurstville man was driving east at around 6-o’clock, when he saw smoke coming from his back tyres. He was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with minor burns and smoke inhalation. MAN STABBED ON CENTRAL COAST

A 45-year-old man is in a stable condition at Gosford Hospital, after being stabbed during a domestic incident. Emergency services attended a home at Umina Beach at around 6:30 last night, where they found the man with a stab wound to his leg. A 37-year-old woman was arrested and later charged with reckless wounding. She’ll appear in Gosford Local Court today. Read More »

MAN CHARGED WITH PRODUCING CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL

A 49-year-old man will face Moree Local Court in June, charged with producing child abuse material. Police arrested the man on Monday, following an investigation into reports a 15-year-old was filmed in the shower. Officers siezed computers and electronic storage devices that allegedly contained footage of young children. The man was granted bail to appear in court on June 1. Read More »

ELDERLY WOMAN ROBBED IN WEST TAMWORTH

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an elderly woman was robbed in West Tamworth. The 71-year-old was walking along Robert Street at around 3:45pm yesterday, when two men on bicycles rode past her. One of the men grabbed her handbag, which was later found with cash and personal items missing. The men are believed to be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance. GIRL APPROACHED IN NELSON BAY

Police are appealing for witnesses after a nine-year-old girl was approached by a man in Port Stephens. The girl was dropped off at her school by a neighbour on Wahgunyah Road in Nelson Bay yesterday morning. She got out of the car and turned around to grab her bag, when a man grabbed her. The neighbour told the man to go away and he walked off. The man is described as being Asian in appearance, about 168-centimetres tall with a chubby build and moles on his cheeks.
