ALLEGED MURDERER TO FACE COURT IN JUNE

A 25-year-old man, accused of murdering his father in Murwillumbah, has had his case adjourned until June. 46-year-old Michael Anthony Martin died at his unit on Quarry Road on June 13 last year. His son, Michael Martin Junior, was charged with his murder in March. He also faces charges relating to another home invasion in April 2014, which left his father seriously injured. Read More »

ON-GOING INVESTIGATION ACROSS NORTHERN RIVERS

Three search warrants were executed across the Northern Rivers yesterday following an on-going investigation. At 12pm yesterday, a man was charged after alleged stolen property and drugs were found in a Casino home. The 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with a string of offences. He was refused bail to appear before Casino Local Court today. Two following search warrants on Gitana Street and Perkins Bridge Road seized alleged items of firearm and drugs. All warrants were part of an on-going investigation to the supply of illicit drugs and manufacture of firearms. Read More »

UPDATED: FATAL SHARK ATTACK AT BALLINA

A man in his early 20s has died after being attacked by a shark on the state’s far north coast. A group of surfers pulled the man from the water at Shelly Beach in Ballina just before 10 o’clock this morning. They administered first aid, but he couldn’t be saved. The man’s next of kin is being notified. Beaches from South Ballina to Lennox Head are now closed. We’ll bring you more details throughout the day. Read More »

MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN LISMORE

A man has been charged with murder, following an incident in Uralba Street in Lismore late last year. On Sunday December 21, a 56-year-old man was airlifted to Brisbane with a fractured skull, arm and shoulder, as well as a stab wound to his back. The man died in hospital on January 2. Yesterday police added the charge of murder to a 27-year-old man, who’s already in custody over the incident. He’s due to reappear in Lismore Local Court on February 17. Read More »

TWO CHARGED AS PART OF ONGOING DRUG SUPPLY INVESTIGATION

Police have charged two men as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged supply of the drugs ‘speed’ and ‘ice’ in northern New South Wales. A 28-year-old man attended Tweed Heads Police Station today, where he was charged with four counts of supply an indictable quantity of drugs. Officers also laid additional charges on a 30-year-old man during a court appearance in Lismore. Strike Force Badim was formed last year by officers attached to the Richmond Local Area Command Drug Unit, to investigate the alleged supply of methylamphetamine by outlaw motorcycle gang members in the region. DRIVER UNINJURED AFTER ROLLING TRUCK

Emergency services are at the scene of a crash south of Byron Bay, where a truck driver has rolled his vehicle four times. The crash happened along the Pacific Highway at Knockrow at around 2pm. Police are appealing for witnesses, following an armed hold-up in Ballina this afternoon. Just after 4 o’clock, a man entered a tobacco store in the Wigmore Arcade and threatened two employees with a knife. He’s described as being Caucasian in appearance and aged in his 20s. TEENAGER STABBED AT GOONELLABAH

A 17-year-old girl has undergone surgery at Lismore Base Hospital, after being stabbed. The teenager was found in the front yard of a home on Shearman Drive at Goonellabah at around 2:20am, suffering multiple stab wounds. She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say the girl knew her attacker. Read More »

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FOR NORTH COAST

The Bureau of Meterology has released a severe weather warning for heavy rain in the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast. It says a low pressure system is deepening in the Coral Sea, with an associated rain band expected to extend over the north-east of the state. Rain is expected to get heavier over the lower mid north coast this afternoon, and extend to the north during the night. It’s likely to be steady rain, with intermittent heavy bursts. There’s a possibility of localised flash flooding. Read More »
