MAITLAND SPRINGS AN UPSET OVER HAMILTON IN NHRU

In Newcastle and Hunter rugby, Wanderers remain undefeated after belting Uni, Beaches beat the Bay, the Tahs hammered the Roos. Merewether outclassed Easts and Maitland scraped home against Hamilton. At Passmore Oval, Jason Keelan put Hamilton in front early on. Neither side was looking polished in attack .. it took a Rob Smith intercept and 70 metre dash to produce the first try of the game and Smith’s first for the season. WANDERERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN NHRU AFTER 12 ROUNDS

In Newcastle and Hunter rugby, Merewether edged out Maitland, Nelson Bay continued its run towards the finals, and The Tahs beat Easts. The Hawks belted Uni, while Wanderers undefeated season continued against Beaches. Daniel Marshall got ball rolling for Southern Beaches with a long run down the left. A few plays later, the home side hit the front with the game’s first try. Newcastle rep player Luke Sherwood showed Wanderers the way, sneaking over from close range. With little separating the sides at the break, Mark Butler gave Beaches some breathing space. But the visitors would finish off the strongest to claim a 14 point win. GREENS SEE RED OVER TWO TACKLES BY THE WARATAHS

In Newcastle and Hunter Rugby, Merewether will ask the competition’s sighting commissioner to review two incidents from Saturday’s clash with The Waratahs. The first involved Aiden Kelso, who was taken out by Tahs fullback Tim Riley in the opening half. Midway through the second, Greens’ captain Mick Gill was flattened by the Reds’ Carl Manu.
