MAYFIELD HOME DAMAGED BY FIRE

Five fire units were called to a house fire at Mayfield this afternoon. A rear flat at a house in Barenya Street was well alight when fire fighters arrived. Flames being fanned by a fresh breeze presented a real risk to neighbouring houses and were quickly tackled but not before spreading to a fence line and into the roof of the main house. Fire fighters are battling a blaze at a house in Mayfield. Fire and Rescue New South Wales received multiple calls of a house on fire in Silsoe Street at about 1pm. BLUE-RINGED OCTOPUS CLOSES OCEAN BATHS

The Newcastle Ocean Baths have been emptied today, after a deadly blue-ringed octopus washed into the water. Council says the baths will be cleaned tomorrow before a site inspection is carried out to ensure the octopus is removed. The small species may look beautiful, but it can inject a toxin which can paralyse and kill a human. Read More »

POLICE APPEAL FOR CCTV AS PART OF MURDER INVESTIGATION

Police are appealing for CCTV footage from businesses, following the murder of a 41-year-old man at Wickham over the weekend. At least two masked men entered Robbie Parry’s home on Dickson Street in the early hours of Saturday morning. Witnesses reportedly heard people making demands for money and drugs, before a shot was fired. Police began CPR when they arrived, but Mr Parry couldn’t be revived. Detectives are asking businesses or residents within three kilometres of the street, and who have CCTV, to call Newcastle Police or Crime Stoppers. Read More »

POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH AT MAYFIELD

Police are appealing for witnesses, following the death of a 71-year-old man in a Mayfield home. Just before 2pm yesterday, emergency services were called to Kerr Street, where they found the man with a gunshot wound to his chest. The crime scene has been examined by forensic officers, but anyone who was in the area or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Newcastle police. Read More »

SHOTS FIRED INTO WALLSEND HOME

Police are appealing for information, after shots were fired into a Wallsend home early this morning. Police say a number of bullets were shot into the Youll Street house just after one o’clock, before a car was heard leaving the area. No-one was injured.
