The SES says it’s received several calls from residents who’ve had people calling them, claiming they are members of the organisation and are running a raffle to support flood victims. The SES says it does NOT operate any such raffles. Authorities are also warning of people dressed as SES volunteers and door knocking for donations at Lake Macquarie, as well as Tanilba Bay in Port Stephens. Again, the SES says it NEVER door knocks residents. Meanwhile residents in Bolton Point at Lake Macquarie have also reported seeing people dressed as SES volunteers and looting homes in the area. AUSTRALIA’S BAKING BEST IN NEWCASTLE

If you never thought of baking as an art form, think again. You only have to see some of the creations made by the Australian Baking Team to understand. The team members are in Newcastle this week for an intensive training camp, where they’ll be finessing new techniques in preparation for next year’s Baking World Cup in Paris. They’re also trailling new recipes in a bid to wow the international judging panel and secure their place in the cup. Five of the country’s best baking experts have been selected on the team, which includes Hunter TAFE teachers Dean Tilden and Dean Gibson. Read More »

Zenon Caravella says he’s not surprised, but he is disappointed, after being told by the Jets he won’t be re-signed. The 32-year-old believes he fell out of favour with coach Phil Stubbins after speaking out against the club’s mid-season purge.
