JETS REACH TERMINATION AGREEMENT WITH KEW JALIENS

The Newcastle Jets have just revealed they’ve reached a mutual termination agreement¬†with former captain, Kew Jaliens. Meanwhile the PFA says remaining squad members, including the four other players sacked by the club, are yet to be paid their monthly wage… but expects that could happen tomorrow. The FFA says it’s spoken to Nathan Tinkler today, and has assurances he will clear more of his debts in the coming days. The Newcastle Jets have scored a late goal to draw with Western Sydney. A controversial penalty saw the Wanderers hit the front in the 86th minute. FFA KEEPING PRESSURE ON NATHAN TINKLER

Jets owner Nathan Tinkler cleared a series of debts on Friday, but FFA Chief Executive David Gallop says there’s more work to be done. “They’ve taken some big steps but there are remaining liabilities. There’s some structural things that need to happen. We are still on a deadline and we think it’s important that the pressure stays on to get these things put in place quickly.” It’s believed sacked players, such as Kew Jaliens and Joel Griffiths, are refusing to sign termination papers until their superannuation is paid, while the sacked coaches are also awaiting payments. NEWCASTLE JETS APPOINT NEW CEO

The Newcastle Jets have appointed Mitchell Murphy as its new Chief Executive Officer. Mr Murphy was the former CEO of Football Federation Victoria and says he’s looking forward to the role, which starts on February 16. “The Hyundai A-League continues to go from strength to strength and I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the Newcastle Jets,” he said. “We need to focus on the future and not dwell on the past. Developing a strong playing roster and forging long-term partnerships with quality sponsors are obviously of paramount importance.” Meanwhile, owner Nathan Tinkler has today finalisedaround $500,000 in outstanding payments to various creditors, partners and government organisations.
