WEATHER: SUN, SUN AND MORE SUN

We are in for a beaming week of sunshine. Today has been very warm and it will be even warmer in northern New South Wales and south east Queensland tomorrow. As we move through the week, the only difference will be a drop in temperature. Cool to cold, dry south westerly winds will be with us for some time including this weekend as the sunshine rolls on. Some very nice surfing conditions are on the way as well. Read More »

WEATHER: SUNSHINE ON THE WAY

Photo of Wallis Lake by Erika Smart

There’ll be a foggy start tomorrow for most, before a warm, sunny day unfolds with north west to north east winds. Through the week, expect plenty of sunshine with cooler, drier, south westerly winds. This will give the coast a chance to dry out, while the drought rages on Inland. It will be a good week for surfers with fun waves to be had. Read More »

WEATHER: EAST COAST LOW LATEST

East coast low

We are now entering the worst period, as the east coast low reaches its peak and begins to track south along the coast. Heavy rain causing flooding, strong to gale force winds and huge dangerous seas and swell will track south overnight into tomorrow. It’s expected to reach the Hunter by Saturday afternoon. Once the centre of the low passes, conditions will ease quickly in the north. The system will clear during Sunday. Boating and surfing is not recommended, until the centre of the low passes. WEATHER: THE LOW DOWN

ECL

The east coast low is still yet to form properly. There are two troughs deepening and both will merge tomorrow to form another intense east coast low. It will hug south east Queensland and north east New South Wales, hitting them the hardest. Gale force winds and huge seas will accompany this storm. The worst of it will be Friday into Saturday, before easing on Sunday. Rain will spin in across the northern ranges to the North West plains. Showers will be heavy at times and will extend south, but the Central Coast and Hunter should largely be spared by this system. Read More »

WEATHER: EAST COAST LOW LATEST

The second east coast low is set to form in the coming days. Moist onshore winds will feed a deepening trough sitting over the eastern states, so coastal showers will begin to ramp up from tomorrow. The low will form Thursday into Friday, hitting the south east corner of Queensland first, before moving south across the Northern Rivers and onto the Mid North Coast during Saturday. The tail of the system is expected to hit the Hunter on Sunday before clearing Monday. This low is a different monster to the one that hit the Hunter and Central Coast last week. This one will be on the move producing flooding rain, heavy down pours and huge dangerous seas and swell as it tracks south over a period of five days. Read More »

WEATHER: ANOTHER EAST COAST LOW ON THE WAY

Another east coast low is expected to form this week. It will be a different monster to last week’s storm and could affect a larger area, extending across northern New South Wales and south east Queensland. It will then move south and onto the Mid North Coast and Hunter. A large high currently sits over the nation, feeding a trough deepening over the eastern states with moist onshore winds. This trough is likely to spin into an east coast low later in the week, producing more strong winds and heavy seas. While all east coast lows have similarities, they are also different so this will be another potentially dangerous storm and one to be monitored in the coming days. Read More »

RSPCA CALLS FOR HELP AFTER ATTACK ON PUP

LIL PUP 4 LOZ

The RSPCA is calling on the community to help find the person responsible for another sickening attack on a puppy in the Hunter. A male staffy-cross is in a critical condition, after being found with head injuries and multiple fractures, in national parkland at Cessnock. The RSPCA says a concerned member of the public called last night after seeing the dog, believed to be between one and two years old, by the side of the road. Wet weather hampered search efforts last night, but the pup was located this morning, and taken to the RSPCA’s Rutherford facility. It follows the brutal bashing deaths of a litter of unwanted puppies in the area last month. Read More »
