TWO PEOPLE KILLED IN HIGHWAY CRASH

There’s been a tragic end to 2014, with two people killed in a car crash north of Taree. The man and woman were travelling north along the Pacific Highway at Moorland just before 2pm, when their car left the road, hit a barrier and rolled down an embankment. Police say fatigue may have been a factor in the crash. Motorists have been warned to expect delays, with one northbound lane closed. Read More »

HOMICIDE DETECTIVES JOIN SEARCH FOR WILLIAM TYRELL

Homicide detectives have joined the search for missing three-year-old William Tyrell. Detective Superintendent Michael Willing says his squad’s involvement is to ensure a “thorough investigation” – and that there’s “no evidence to suggest any particular scenario at this stage”. William disappeared from his grandmother’s home at Kendall, on the mid north coast, in September. MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

A man has undergone surgery at John Hunter Hospital, after suffering a fractured jaw and cuts to his face during an aggravated robbery at Taree. At around 1am this morning, two men asked for a lift from a 32-year-old Taiwanese man. During the trip, the men told him to stop the car near railway tracks, where they stole his wallet and ran from the scene. The driver tried to chase the men, but was struck in the face with a beer bottle. He managed to drive himself to Taree Police Station, where paramedics were called. The men are described as being Caucasian in appearance and aged in their 20s. One has a large build with blonde hair and the other is shorter with dark hair. Read More »

SHOTS FIRED INTO COFFS HARBOUR HOME

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, after shots were fired into a home at Coffs Harbour. The home on Prince James Avenue was unoccupied when several shots were fired from a car at around 1am on Sunday. It’s unknown how many people were in the vehicle, which is believed to be a silver or white late-model utility. It was last seen being driven away in a southerly direction. Police have established a crime scene and are asking anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact them. Read More »

TAREE GIRL AWARDED BY AMBULANCE NSW

A young girl from Taree has been commended by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales, for assisting her mother during a medical episode. 10-year-old Sha-Kayla Mudford remained on the phone to emergency services on September 24, while her father provided assistance to her mum, Tanya, who was having a diabetic seizure. The Ambulance Service says Sha-Kayla was able to provide important first-aid information, including updates on her mother’s condition and details about her medical history. Today she was awarded the Star Award, which recognised her ability to remain calm in a stressful situation. Sha-Kayla’s little sister, La’Kasha, was also commended with a special teddy. Read More »

Steph Bellamy was taking photos at McCauley’s Beach, near where a women’s surfing competition was being held, when she saw a splash.
