MISSING GIRL BELIEVED TO BE SAFE AND WELL

Police believe a Lake Macquarie teenager, who’s been missing for almost two weeks, is safe and well. 16-year-old Taylor Almond was last seen at her Dudley home on October 12. It’s believed she may have been in the Newcastle suburbs of Kotara, Adamstown and Newcastle beach during the past week. While new information suggests Taylor is okay, police are urging her to contact authorities. “Even though we think Taylor is okay, it is crucial that she makes contact with us or her family,” said Detective Superintendent Brett Greentree. MISSING FAMILY FOUND IN QUEENSLAND

A family of three who went missing from Lake Macquarie has been found in Queensland overnight. A 32-year-old man, 20-year-old woman and their three month old baby were last seen at about 8am on Monday at Mirrabooka. At around nine last night, Queensland police found the family after they were allegedly involved in a car crash in Warwick. The woman suffered minor injuries and the little boy was taken to Warwick Hospital for observation. The man and woman have been arrested and are assisting police with their inquiries. Read More »

UPDATED: TEEN GIRL KILLED AT EDGEWORTH

Glendale Technology High School has released a statement, after one its students was hit and killed by a car this morning. “The school extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Courtney Plain. “Courtney was a very popular student with her peers and staff,” it said. The 16-year-old was crossing Main Road at Edgeworth at around 8:30 this morning, when she was hit by a Toyota Prado. She was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital where she later passed away. A woman driving the four-wheel drive was not injured, but was taken to Belmont Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests. The school has made counseling available to students. Read More »

GIRL HOSPITALISED AFTER STABBING

A teenager has been charged over the stabbing of a 17-year-old girl in Lake Macquarie. Police were called to bushland near Flaggy Creek Reserve at Kahibah at around nine last night, following reports of a stabbing. It’s alleged an 18-year-old female stabbed the other girl with a pocket knife in the chest, stomach, arms and hands during a fight. The girl was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition. The 18 year old has been granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Belmont Local Court later this month. Read More »

CHANNEL DREDGING TO MAKE A DENT NEXT MONTH

It’s been a long time in the making, but the dredging of Swansea Channel is expected to go ahead mid next month, following the announcement of a successful tender. The $2.5-million state government project involves the removal of up to 100,000 cubic metres of sand, which will then be pumped to Blacksmiths for dune rehabilitation. Lake Macquarie Council says it has not yet committed funds and is continuing talks about the channel’s long-term maintenance. Read More »

FORMER RFS VOLUNTEER FACING FIVE EXTRA CHARGES

A former Rural Fire Service volunteer, who pleaded guilty to lighting several fires at Lake Macquarie last year, is now facing an additional five charges. Alex Gordon Noble appeared in Newcastle Local Court today, where five counts of “intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread”, was added. Noble is due to reappear in court on October 8. EAST COAST BMX CHAMPIONSHIPS AT LAKE MACQUARIE TRACK

Adam Carey from the Blue Mountains upset a host of Hunter riders to take out the Pro Men’s title at the East Coast BMX Championships at Argenton on the weekend. Lake Macquarie’s Brock Griffiths and Ryan Buchhorn finished outside the top three. There was better news for clubmate Kyle Hughes and Maitland’s Thomas Hubert, who ended up on the podium. More than 30 divisions were contested, with all the young riders receiving a reward for their efforts. Read More »

PHOTO: Sent in by Kylie Jordan.  An 11-metre yacht has been destroyed by fire on Lake Macquarie. Residents along the foreshore at Buttaba, on the western side of the lake, reported the incident at around 5.30am. Firefighters teamed up with water police to get to the blazing fibreglass yacht, but little could be done before it burnt to the waterline and sank at its mooring. Efforts then turned to containing oil and diesel spills from the vessel. Read More »
