LONG WAIT OVER: WYEE TO BE CONNECTED TO SEWERAGE

After a 30-year wait, Wyee at Lake Macquarie will finally be connected to a sewerage system. Today Minister for Natural Resources, Lands and Water, Kevin Humphries, announced the $26-million project, which will see 400 lots in Wyee linked to Hunter Water. The system will however be large enough to cater for 1000 more lots in the future. At present, homes and businesses operate with a septic pump-out system and locals say they’re keen for the upgrade. MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER WOMAN’S BODY FOUND

A Windale man has been charged with murder after a woman’s body was found in a reserve at Lake Macquarie yesterday. Renee Mitchell was found by a member of the public in the Bangalay Reserve at Windale at around 6:30am. Five hours later, police stopped a vehicle on Myall Road at Cardiff and arrested a 66-year-old man. He was taken to Charlestown Police Station and charged. UPDATE: MAN ARRESTED AFTER BODY FOUND AT WINDALE

A 66-year-old Windale man has been arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries after a woman’s body was found at Lake Macquarie this morning. A member of the public made the discovery in the Bangalay Reserve at Windale at around 6:30. The woman’s death is being treated as suspicious, detectives from the state’s Homicide Squad are assisting the investigation. Police arrested the man on Myall Road at Cardiff just before midday. POLICE IDENTIFY BODY FOUND IN BUSHLAND

Police have confirmed a body found in bushland at Lake Macquarie, is that of missing teenager Taylor Almond. The 16-year-old was last seen at her home in Dudley on October 12. Last Thursday, a body was discovered in bushland at the Awabakal Nature Reserve, a short distance from Taylor’s home. Her death is not being treated as suspicious. Read More »

HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE

A house at Lake Macquarie has been destroyed by fire overnight. Fire and Rescue New South Wales were called to Jill Parade at Charlestown at around 12:30am, where they found the house well alight. It took three crews more than two hours to get the blaze under control. Fortunately no-one was inside at the time – neighbours say the tenants had moved out last week. P-PLATE DRIVER CHARGED AFTER MORISSET CRASH

A young P-plate driver has been charged following a car crash at Morisset yesterday, which left a woman with serious head injuries. It’s alleged the 20-year-old man was driving at nearly 200-kilometres an hour along the M1, when he crashed into the back of a Toyota Hilux, sending it over a bridge and into a creek. The 38-year-old driver of the Hilux was trapped for some time before she was flown to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition. A 20-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was injured in a car crash at Lake Macquarie this morning. Police allege the man, who was driving a station wagon, collided with the rear of a Toyota Hilux on the M1 at Morisset, sending it over a bridge and into a creek. The female driver of the Hilux was trapped for some time before Police Rescue removed her. She was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries. The male driver, who holds a provisional license, was uninjured and arrested at the scene. Motorists are warned to expect significant delays north bound. (VISION ONLY) Read More »

A 40-year-old man has died at Frazer Park, south of Swansea, after hitting his head on a rock at the water’s edge. The man, who is believed to be from Pakistan, was playing soccer with friends on the beach at the time. We’ll bring you more details as they come to hand. Read More »

MISSING LAKE MACQUARIE TEEN FOUND

A young man, who went missing at Lake Macquarie, has been found. The 19-year-old was last seen on CCTV leaving Warners Bay Hospital at around 10pm on Sunday. Following information from the public, the teenager was found walking on Munibung Hill Reserve last night. Police say he’s been taken back to hospital in general good health. Read More »
