KNIGHTS SKIPPER CHASES ALLEGED INTRUDERS FROM HOME

Newcastle Knights skipper Kurt Gidley says he and his family have been left shaken, after an alleged break-in at their Merewether home. The father-of-two had just arrived home on Saturday night after dinner, when three teens allegedly entered his home. Gidley chased the trio and managed to tackle one of the boys before police arrived. That boy later returned to Gidley’s home with his father and apologised. A 16-year-old has been charged and will face court on January 12. More charges are expected to be laid. Read More »

SCOTT RULED OUT OF ROOS’ FOUR NATIONS CLASH

Beau Scott has been ruled out of the Kangaroos’ Four Nations game against Samoa, due to injury. The Newcastle Knights forward suffered a low-grade hamstring tear during the Roos’ 16-12 win over England yesterday. The club today ruled the 30-year-old out of this weekend’s clash in Wollongong, after undergoing scans in Melbourne. McKINNON READY FOR NEXT STAGE OF REHABILITATION

Injured Newcastle Knights player, Alex McKinnon, has been released from a Sydney rehabilitation clinic after seven months of treatment. In an Instagram post, McKinnon thanked staff at Royal Rehab and says he’s looking forward to the next stage of his rehabilitation. “Improvement is slow but excited to start my new stage of rehab, a change in environment but the same goals,” he said. McKinnon suffered a spinal injury earlier this year in a game against the Melbourne Storm. Read More »

TITANS & KNIGHTS AMONG CLUBS FINED BY NRL

Five clubs including the Knights and Titans have been fined by the NRL for breaching the salary cap. The Titans have been heaviest hit, fined $300,000 and hit with a suspended penalty of four competition points. The breach relates to former player Scott Prince who received substantially more than the contract lodged with the NRL. The Gold Coast club had $75,000 of the fine and the four competition points suspended because club officials self reported the breach. McKINNON AND SCOTT RECEIVE COACH AWARDS

Parting Newcastle Knights coach Wayne Bennett has chosen Alex McKinnon and Beau Scott as recipents for his Coach’s Award. At last night’s club presentation, Bennett spoke fondly of the two, including how much he admired McKinnon’s strength of character after he suffered a spinal injury earlier in the year. “I was proud of him before the incident. Obviously he was special from the time I first saw him at the Dragons, but I’ve even been more proud of him now because he’s made our job so much easier for the way he’s conducted himself,” he said. BEAU SCOTT NAMED ‘SECOND ROWER OF THE YEAR’

Newcastle Knight, Beau Scott, has been named ‘Second Rower of the Year’ at last night’s Dally M awards. It caps off a successful season for the 30-year-old, which has seen him play in the New South Wales Origin and Country representative teams. Scott has also recently been selected in the Prime Minister’s XIII, to play Papua New Guinea next month. A MIXED WEEKEND FOR THE KNIGHTS LOWER GRADES

It’s been a mixed weekend for the Newcastle Knights, with their minor premiership winning Under 20s side eliminated from the competition at the hands of the Warriors. After trailing 13 nil at half time, the Knights got back within three, but the Warriors ran away with the game 23-16. Meanwhile UK bound Josh Mantellato was the hero for the Knights NSW Cup side today. The winger scored Newcastle’s first three tries in the grand final qualifier against the Illawarra Cutters, as the Knights ran away with the game 34-10.
