NEWCASTLE JETS APPOINT NEW CEO

The Newcastle Jets have appointed Mitchell Murphy as its new Chief Executive Officer. Mr Murphy was the former CEO of Football Federation Victoria and says he’s looking forward to the role, which starts on February 16. “The Hyundai A-League continues to go from strength to strength and I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the Newcastle Jets,” he said. “We need to focus on the future and not dwell on the past. Developing a strong playing roster and forging long-term partnerships with quality sponsors are obviously of paramount importance.” Meanwhile, owner Nathan Tinkler has today finalisedaround $500,000 in outstanding payments to various creditors, partners and government organisations. Jets recruit Daniel Mullen has spoken to the media for the first time, since arriving in Newcastle over the weekend. Having worked with coach Phil Stubbins before, the 25-year-old defender says he’s confident the team can move on from recent dramas at the club. Last week saw the sackings of three coaches and five players, with owner Nathan Tinkler citing a change in club culture behind the decisions. BRIDGES RESIGNS FROM JETS

The chaos continues to unfold at the Newcastle Jets with the resignation this morning of Youth Team Coach and former player Michael Bridges. Bridges’s resignation follows the sacking of three other coaching staff and five senior players. Bridges says he had no option but to resign, given the disarray enveloping the club. ” The recent communication between playing staff, coaches and management has been unfortunate. In my opinion, the resulting sackings were not handled in the correct manner,” said Bridges. Three coaching staff have been sacked from the Newcastle Jets this afternoon. Assistant coach Clayton Zane, goal-keeping coach Neil Young and the club’s trainer Andrew Packer have lost their jobs. It comes amid an escalating crisis at the club, with owner Nathan Tinkler under strict deadlines to appoint a new chairman and CEO, before Football Federation Australia intervenes.
