Newcastle Knights coach Wayne Bennett and players Darius Boyd, Beau Scott and Kurt Gidley have visited injured team mate Alex McKinnon in hospital, as he makes progress following his neck injury. McKinnon was taken out of his induced coma and had his assisted ventilation removed over the weekend, and can now breathe on his own and communicate with his family. McKinnon’s family says being able to talk to him was “unbelieveable”. It comes as the side scored an emotional win over the Cronulla Sharks at Hunter Stadium yesterday, six days after the forward was injured during the clash against the Melbourne Storm.
