MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG AND FIREARM OFFENCES

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Belmont woman Carly McBride, have charged a man with drug and firearms offences. At around 12:30pm yesterday, Strike Force Karabi executed three search warrants in Scone and Muswellbrook. Police allegedly found three firearms, a silencer, methamphetamine and more than $5,000 cash. A 24-year-old man was charged with 13 offences and will appear before Scone Local Court today. Police have stressed the charges do not relate to the ongoing investigation of Carly McBride, but say they came about as a result of that investigation. The 31-year-old mother was last see on Calgaroo Avenue at Muswellbrook on September 30 last year. Police hold serious concerns for her welfare and are investigating a possible homicide. Read More »

WOMAN’S BODY FOUND IN MAITLAND FLOOD WATERS

Police divers have recovered the body of an elderly woman, whose car was swept into flood waters in Maitland. At around 9am yesterday, emergency services were called to Cessnock Road near Gilleston Heights. Four people entered the water to assist, but had to be rescued themselves. The search – involving police, Fire and Rescue New South Wales and the SES, continued throughout the day – until the car was located at around 6pm. Police had been told two women were in the car, but divers found no evidence that a second person was inside. Read More »

SINGLETON CRASH CLAIMS TWO LIVES

Two people have died in a two-car crash on the New England Highway, north of Singleton. Police have confirmed the cars collided head-on at Rixs Creek at around 3:30pm, and both drivers passed away. Emergency services rescued another¬†two people who were trapped. They’ve been airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition. Drivers are being told to avoid the area if possible, with the New England Highway closed in both directions. Read More »

STORM LATEST: EMERGENCY SERVICES SEARCHING FOR THREE PEOPLE

The Hunter’s flood emergency focus has shifted to the Maitland area today where as many as three people remain unaccounted for after two vehicles became trapped in rising flood waters. The Westpac Rescue helicopter as well as emergency services with flood boats are on scene searching an area of Cessnock Road near Gilleston Heights. A witness says the car attempted to go around another car which had stalled, when it was swept into the rising flood waters. Other travellers went to help but along with the occupant of the first vehicle, were washed away. So far, the SES has received 2733 calls for help in the Hunter region alone.   Read More »
