TRASH TURNS TO TREASURED RESOURCE FOR RSPCA

Every man and his dog was at the RSPCA’S West Burleigh headquarters this morning, as dozens of exhibitors set up shop in the carpark, selling second-hand goods out of their car boots. The event was all about raising funds for a brand new animal ambulance. Ambulance officer Jasmine Croft said, “Unfortunately this one we have is a bit unreliable, so we keep breaking down.” “We can’t do our job properly without a vehicle, so it makes it very hard.” A replacement ambulance will cost more than $40,000. The existing vehicle is called upon five days a week, transporting sick and injured animals to a vet, or to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital. Read More »

WOMEN CHARGED AFTER BUS ASSAULT

Two young women, suspected of carrying out Tuesday’s sickening attack on an elderly bus passenger on the Gold Coast, have been charged with serious assault. An elderly Aboriginal man was allegedly punched, kicked and spat on by the girls. He was set upon after telling them to get off, for abusing other passengers. It was all captured on a phone camera by a terrified 13-year-old girl.   Read More »

CHARGES EXPECTED TO BE LAID OVER GOLD COAST BUS ASSAULT

Police are expecting to charge two young women who bashed and racially vilified a partially blind indigenous man on a Gold Coast bus on Tuesday. The incident was filmed by a commuter on a bus at Kirra, and shows two women, aged 17 and 21, punching, kicking and spitting at the 77-year-old man. Gold Coast police say the victim had made a statement, and wanted to press charges. The women could face serious assault charges, which carry a maximum of seven years jail. They were indentified this morning after receiving a number of calls from the public. Read More »

MAN PULLS FAKE GUN ON MCDONALDS STAFF

Police made a quick arrest overnight, bringing in a man who allegedly threatened workers at a Labrador McDonald’s restaurant with a replica gun. Staff allege the man entered the drive-through and ordered food around three o’clock this morning. When he approached the second window to pay…they say he attempted to place another order, and was told by staff that wasn’t allowed. It’s alleged the man then became agitated and drove off. Staff then claim he returned a short time later…driving into the carpark and threatening them with a gun… which was later found to be an imitation. The man and a female passenger were arrested by police almost immediately. Read More »
