UPPER COOMERA BURGLAR CAUGHT ON CAMERA

An Upper Coomera couple has scared off a would-be burglar overnight. Home security cameras captured the man trying to break into the property, before running off when the residents arrived home. Security companies say, the use of home systems is becoming more popular. “They just want to feel a bit safe they’re starting to look at other options putting in CCTV cameras in to keep their house safe and security alarms as well.” The vision was posted on Facebook to warn other residents in the area.   Read More »

MAN CHARGED OVER MURDER OF PREGNANT WOMAN

A man has been charged over the brutal murder of a pregnant woman on the Gold Coast. The 35-year-old Surfers Paradise man is accused of killing the woman with a tomahawk during a domestic dispute at Varsity Lakes yesterday afternoon. Emergency services found the woman with horrific head injuries. She was rushed to hospital, but died soon after. The man has been remanded in custody and will reappear at the Southport Magistrates Court in May. Read More »

STORM CAUSES HAVOC ON GOLD COAST

It is believed the family was on the way to vote before yesterday’s accident. They were sheltering from the severe storm under a metal-roofed gazebo near Worongary State School when they were hit. His wife, 12-week-old baby and 18-month-old toddler, were also admitted but are now in a stable condition. Meantime, more vision has emerged of the storm, which left thousands of properties without electricity. Energex reported 1500 lightning strikes. Houses were damaged and trees fell during the storm. GOLD COAST FLOOD CLEAN UP CONTINUES

Emergency services have been flat out cleaning up around the Gold Coast after yesterday’s deluge. Volunteers worked into the night and all through today, mopping up at more than 100 homes. Despite the efforts of emergency services and neighbours, many low lying properties were inundated. The SES says it’s a reminder to residents to clean out their gutters, prepare sandbags and secure backyard items before severe storms hit. Read More »
