A truck was engulfed in flames on the M1 on the Central Coast overnight. The crane caught alight just after 8pm at Ourimbah the fire quickly brought under control by fire fighters. No-one was injured in the blaze. Read More »

A Wallsend woman and her seven-year-old son had a lucky escape early this morning, after their unit went up in flames. At around 1:30, fire crews were called to the Harriet Street premises, arriving to find it well alight. Fortunately both occupants had escaped the flames, after being woken by a fire alarm. “Just smelt smoke and opened my sons bedroom door and there the fire was, so I just grabbed him out of my bed and ran out the door.” “I’ve been telling him for weeks he needs to go back into his own bed and stop coming into mums. WOMAN AND SON ESCAPE UNINJURED FROM UNIT FIRE

Police are investigating the cause of a fire, which badly damaged a unit in Wallsend early this morning. A woman woke to the sound of the fire alarm in her Harriett Street unit just before 1 o’clock, and found the fire burning in her 7-year-old son’s bedroom. Both managed to escape uninjured. Fire fighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading into two other units. Read More »

Police are investigating the cause of a fire, which destroyed a unit at Jesmond. Firefighters arrived at Mayo Street at around 3:30 this morning, to find the ground floor dwelling well alight. Three fire crews responded to the blaze just before 6-o’clock, to find the home engulfed in flames. The residents were not home at the time. A West Kempsey home has been badly damaged after fire tore through the premises this morning. Three fire crews arrived at the scene just before six o’clock and found the house engulfed in flames. LIGHTNING STRIKE SPARKS BOAT FIRE

A small sailing boat was destroyed when it was struck by lightning during last night’s storm at Lake Macquarie. The boat was moored about 50-metres offshore at Yarrawonga Park near Bonnells Bay when it was struck, sparking a fire. The Rural Fire Service arrived at around 8:30pm to find the mast and sails well alight. The owner of the boat says the incident was extremely unlucky and he won’t be rushing to buy a new one.
