MAYFIELD HOME DAMAGED BY FIRE

Five fire units were called to a house fire at Mayfield this afternoon. A rear flat at a house in Barenya Street was well alight when fire fighters arrived. Flames being fanned by a fresh breeze presented a real risk to neighbouring houses and were quickly tackled but not before spreading to a fence line and into the roof of the main house. Police have renewed their appeal for information into a suspicious house fire at South Grafton in 2012. The home in Peppermint Place was destroyed by fire on October 17. Fire fighters are battling a blaze at a house in Mayfield. Fire and Rescue New South Wales received multiple calls of a house on fire in Silsoe Street at about 1pm. RECYCLING FACTORY DESTROYED BY FIRE

Fire fighters remain at a recycling factory in West Gosford, after fire tore through it last night. Six crews were called to Gibbens Street at around 6:40pm and found the building well alight. They worked through the night to contain the fire, before heavy machinery was brought in this morning to remove smouldering bails of paper. Firefighters say the fire spread from a garbage truck inside the factory, but it’s still working to determine how it ignited. Read More »

The celebrations continued overnight for Hunter basketballer, Suzy Batkovic, following the Townsville Fire’s win in the WNBL grand final. The three-time league MVP was one of the stars of the decider, thanks to her 22 points and 11 rebounds. Batkovic has achieved plenty in her career, including three Olympic medals, but the national title for Townsville was a first. “Look I think it’s been a little bit, who’s going to do it the Cowboys or the Fire and that’s been theme the last couple of years because we’ve been in the grand final and it’s a phenomenal job that we finally got over the line and brought it home to Townsville.” (AUDIO IN PARTS) Read More »

FOUR TEENAGERS CHARGED OVER SCHOOL FIRE

Four teenage boys have been charged in relation to a deliberately lit fire at South Kempsey’s Melville High School, which destroyed classrooms for special needs students. The blaze broke out at around 9pm on January 29 in the school’s Learning Support Unit. It destroyed two classrooms and a staff room, with the damage bill estimated to be more than $2.5-million. Earlier this week, detectives attached to Strike Force Tooradin charged three 14-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy with a string of offences. TEENAGER CHARGED WITH INVERELL HIGH FIRE

A 14-year-old girl has been charged, following a fire at Inverell High School yesterday. Fire crews were called to the school at around 1:30pm and found the industrial arts roof well alight. Staff and students were evacuated and no-one was injured. The girl has been charged with recklessly causing damage by fire and she’ll appear before children’s court on March 12. Read More »

Police are treating a fire, which badly damaged a section of Inverell High School, as suspicious. Fire and Rescue New South Wales were called to the school on Brae Street at around 1:30pm, where they found the roof of the industrial arts building well alight. SCHOOL DAMAGED BY FIRE

Rathmines fire

Police are investigating the cause of a fire, which seriously damaged a Lake Macquarie school this morning. Fire fighters arrived at Rathmines Public School at around 12:30 and found the canteen and hall well alight. Crews were able to bring the fire under control. The Department of Education has issued a statement saying all classes are operating as normal. It says it’s looking into alternative temporary canteen arrangements for next week. Read More »
