TWO SUSPICIOUS FIRES ON THE CENTRAL COAST

A house has been destroyed and a mini golf club damaged, following two suspicious fires on the Central Coast last night. Emergency services were called to a home at around 8:40pm on The Entrance Road at Forresters Beach. Fire crews managed to extinguish the blaze a short time later, before finding a second fire at a nearby mini golf club. Fortunately no-one was injured. MAYFIELD HOME DAMAGED BY FIRE

Five fire units were called to a house fire at Mayfield this afternoon. A rear flat at a house in Barenya Street was well alight when fire fighters arrived. Flames being fanned by a fresh breeze presented a real risk to neighbouring houses and were quickly tackled but not before spreading to a fence line and into the roof of the main house. RECYCLING FACTORY DESTROYED BY FIRE

Fire fighters remain at a recycling factory in West Gosford, after fire tore through it last night. Six crews were called to Gibbens Street at around 6:40pm and found the building well alight. They worked through the night to contain the fire, before heavy machinery was brought in this morning to remove smouldering bails of paper. Firefighters say the fire spread from a garbage truck inside the factory, but it’s still working to determine how it ignited. Read More »

WALLSEND UNIT BADLY DAMAGED BY FIRE

A Wallsend woman and her seven-year-old son had a lucky escape early this morning, after their unit went up in flames. At around 1:30, fire crews were called to the Harriet Street premises, arriving to find it well alight. Fortunately both occupants had escaped the flames, after being woken by a fire alarm. “Just smelt smoke and opened my sons bedroom door and there the fire was, so I just grabbed him out of my bed and ran out the door.” “I’ve been telling him for weeks he needs to go back into his own bed and stop coming into mums. WOMAN AND SON ESCAPE UNINJURED FROM UNIT FIRE

Police are investigating the cause of a fire, which badly damaged a unit in Wallsend early this morning. A woman woke to the sound of the fire alarm in her Harriett Street unit just before 1 o’clock, and found the fire burning in her 7-year-old son’s bedroom. Both managed to escape uninjured. Police are investigating the cause of a fire, which destroyed a unit at Jesmond. Firefighters arrived at Mayo Street at around 3:30 this morning, to find the ground floor dwelling well alight. FIRE DESTROYS UNIT AT NORTH GOSFORD

Two people have been taken to hospital following a unit fire at North Gosford this morning. Fire and Rescue New South Wales were called to the Gertrude Street complex at around 11 o’clock and found the ground floor apartment well alight. 20 people were evacuated from the building, while a woman in her 70s and a man in his 30s are being treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation at Gosford Hospital. ELECTRICAL FIRE IN TAREE

Fire and Rescue New South Wales is at the scene of an electrical fire in Taree. The fire broke out in the switchboard of the Hooke Chambers building on Victoria Street at around 11:30 this morning.
