WEATHER: HOTTEST DAY IN 11 YEARS FOR COOLANGATTA

North east New South Wales and south east Queensland were very hot today, as the sea breeze took a long time to kick in. Coolangatta has only reached 37.1 degrees four times in the past 30 years. Further south, a dry southerly helped keep temperatures down from Coffs Harbour to Gosford. Inland it was even hotter. It will be hot again tomorrow with another trough set to fire up more storms across the region in the afternoon. Read More »

Coolangatta surfer Brent Dorrington has begun his climb, up the qualifying series ratings after a third place finish at the Santa Catarina pro in Brazil. Despite the small conditions, Dorrington fought hard, but went down in the semi final to eventual winner Michael Rodrigues. MOKBEL’S NEPHEW IN COURT

The nephew of underworld figure Tony Mokbel¬†has faced court in Coolangatta. Antonios Mokbel admitted to a heated confrontation at Gold Coast Airport- swearing at Jetstar cabin crew, when asked to turn off his phone. The 19 year old failed to show up for his first court appearance. Today, he was given a twelve month good behaviour bond and ordered to pay 11-hundred dollars court costs.   Read More »
