THE BLUES TO RETURN TO COFFS HARBOUR

In a coup for Coffs Harbour, the New South Wales rugby league team will return to the region to train ahead of this year’s State of Origin games. The Blues will stay in Coffs Harbour in the lead up to all three matches, including game two in Melbourne, as they aim for back-to-back series titles. The change in training location last year is credited with helping the Blues break an eight-year series losing streak. The state government has also announced it will offset some of the cost of the team’s travel, accomodation and training expenses, but wouldn’t say how much. MAN IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER ASSAULT AT COFFS HARBOUR

A man is in critical condition after an assault at Coffs Harbour yesterday. Shortly after midnight, two men in a light-brown sedan stopped and approached a group of people walking along Prince Street. The men assaulted a 41-year-old man and punched a 35-year-old man to fell to the ground unconscious. The two men ran back to their car and drove from the area. The 35-year-old suffered serious head injuries and remains in hospital in a critical condition. The 41-year-old suffered minor injuries and has been released from hospital.​ Read More »

MAN CHARGED WITH MALICIOUS WOUNDING

A 43-year-old man will face Coffs Harbour Local Court today, charged with malicious wounding and breaching an apprehended violence order. The man allegedly struck a 29-year-old man with an aluminium torch, while he was at the Jetty with his partner and children last night. He suffered a cut to his head, as well as several chipped teeth. Police say the men are known to each other. Read More »

SHOTS FIRED INTO COFFS HARBOUR HOME

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, after shots were fired into a home at Coffs Harbour. The home on Prince James Avenue was unoccupied when several shots were fired from a car at around 1am on Sunday. It’s unknown how many people were in the vehicle, which is believed to be a silver or white late-model utility. It was last seen being driven away in a southerly direction. Police have established a crime scene and are asking anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact them. Read More »

Steph Bellamy was taking photos at McCauley’s Beach, near where a women’s surfing competition was being held, when she saw a splash. MAN EXPOSES HIMSELF TO WOMAN AT TOORMINA

Police are appealing for information after a man exposed himself to a woman near Coffs Harbour yesterday afternoon. The 61-year-old Queensland woman was walking with her two grandchildren on a pathway near Dews Avenue at Toormina, when she was approached by a man. It’s alleged he spoke to her before exposing himself. The man’s been described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 30s and around 180-centimetres tall. TEEN CHARGED OVER COFFS HARBOUR INDECENT ASSAULT

A teenager has been charged over the indecent assault of a five-year-old girl in Coffs Harbour last month. Police allege the 15 year old approached the child in a playground of a fast-food restaurant on Park Beach Road on October 11. Following an investigation by the Child Abuse Squad, the boy was arrested yesterday and charged with indecent assault of a child. He’s been released on conditional bail. Read More »

MAN CRITICAL AFTER HIGHWAY CRASH

A 24-year-old South Grafton man is in a critical condition following a collision on the Pacific Highway north of Coffs Harbour. Emergency services were called to the scene at Dirty Creek just after 4am, after a car and two trucks were involved in a crash. The driver of the car suffered chest, head and leg injuries, while the male truck drivers managed to escape unharmed. They’ve been taken to Grafton Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. The Highway has now re-opened. Read More »

POLICE FIND MORE THAN $90,000 IN CAR

PHOTO: Courtesy of NSW Police.  Police have found more than $90,000 in a car after stopping the driver for speeding in Coffs Harbour yesterday. The 35-year-old driver was stopped on the Pacific Highway at Bonville, at about 2.15pm, after he was found to be travelling almost 30 kilometres over the speed limit. Officers searched his car and found concealed items including 42 rounds of ammunition, a small amount of methamphetamine and more than $90,000 in cash. He was also found to have a suspended licence. The man was later charged with possessing the proceeds of crime, drug possession and driving while disqualified. He was refused bail and is due to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court today. FARMERS RECEIVE A HELPING HAND

Grass cuttings from council owned land in Coffs Harbour have been turned into silage to help feed starving livestock out west. The pilot project driven by the North Coast Local Land Service aims to provide much needed relief to farmers in the Walgett and Pilliga regions. “We’ve got just out of merely 10 hectares, we’ve got 177 round bales which will be about four semi loads out there and this is just one small patch in one local government area on the coast.” Kent Lee from North Coast Local Land Services Land owners wanting to get involved in the project can contact the North Coast Land Service on 1300 795 299.
