WORK TO START ON NEW TOURIST ATTRACTION

The first sod has been turned on Coffs Harbour’s newest tourist attraction. Work is about to commence on a $1.6-million water park at the famous Big Banana. The new park will include a 96-metre long slide and a raft ride spanning more than 100-metres. Management says the Big Banana will remain in its traditional spot, despite the major development. LUCKY ESCAPE FOR TRUCK DRIVER

A truck driver has had a lucky escape, after his b-double burst into flames north of Coffs Harbour. He was traveling along the Pacific Highway at Halfway Creek at around 1am, when a fellow truck driver noticed smoke and radioed the man to pull over. Within minutes, the rig was engulfed in flames. A local resident says he was woken to the sounds of tyres exploding. It’s believed a wheel bearing siezed and sparked the fire. Read More »

FLASH FLOODING IN COFFS HARBOUR

A severe thunderstorm has left several homes, businesses and cars flooded in Coffs Harbour. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the area copped 49-millimetres of rain between 12 and 1pm this afternoon. Wind gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour were also recorded at Coffs Harbour airport. The State Emergency Service is urging people to avoid driving through flood waters. MAN CHARGED OVER ASSAULT OF TEENAGER

A 22-year-old man has been charged with indecent assault and the attempted sexual assault of a teenager on the mid north coast. Strike Force Mediata was formed after two 16-year-old girls and a 15-year-old girl were allegedly sexually assaulted at an address in Woolgoolga on February 5. Police say the man befriended the girls on social media. “Our inquiries have identified contact being made with girls via Facebook and we do believe there was some alcohol involved prior to the committing of these offences,” said Detective Inspector Darren Jameson. “Any young people who feel they are being inappropriately spoken to on social media should contact police,” he said. Police have identified another two men involved who have since left the country, and have also charged a 24-year-old man with being an accessory after the fact. Read More »

CHILDREN APPROACHED AT COFFS HARBOUR

Police are appealing for information after two boys were approached at Coffs Harbour. The 10 year olds were standing with their pushbikes out the front of a school on Robin Street late yesterday, when they were approached by a man in a van. Police say the driver spoke to them from inside the vehicle and asked them to come over. He’s described as being Caucasian in appearance, in his late 40s, with a slim build and long grey beard. The van is believed to be an older model Toyota, with yello registration plates and a faded sticker on one side. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. Read More »
