GIRL BITTEN BY SHARK AT AVOCA

A 13-year-old girl has sustained minor injuries, after being bitten by a shark on the Central Coast. Police say the girl was surfing at Avoca Beach at around 6:30 this morning, when she was bitten on the left ankle. She made her way to shore and was taken to Gosford Hospital by bystanders. She remains in a stable condition. Lifesavers are monitoring the beach and are advising people to avoid entering the water. Read More »

CHRIS HARTCHER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM POLITICS

Former New South Wales energy minister Chris Hartcher is retiring from politics, announcing today he won’t re-contest his seat of Terrigal on the Central Coast at next year’s election. Mr Hartcher is the longest serving member of the state lower house and says it is time to move on after 26 years. Last year he relinquished his ministry and then moved to the crossbench in February, following an ICAC probe into illegal political donations. It’s alleged the 68-year-old organised a scheme to funnel banned donations to Liberal candidates. Read More »

UPDATED: MAN HOSPITALISED AFTER VIOLENT HOME INVASION

A 42-year-old man has suffered head injuries during a violent home invasion on the Central Coast last night. Police say three males entered his home on Oakland Avenue at The Entrance at around 8:45pm and hit him in the head with a hammer. He was airlifted to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a stable condition. Anyone with information should contact Brisbane Water Police. Read More »

CENTRAL COAST PREPARES FOR BUSH FIRE SEASON

Central Coast firefighters say the region will need to prepare for a hot summer, as they completed hazard reduction burns in Gosford today. The Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue were on Mount Elliot, clearing 47 hectares of bush. They say despite recent heavy rain in the region, the scrub has dried up, increasing the threat of bush fires. Hazard reduction burns are expected to be carried out over the next few weeks. MAN CHARGED AFTER WOMAN’S BODY FOUND

A 55-year-old man has been charged with murder, after the body of a woman was discovered in the backyard of a Central Coast home this morning. Police attended the house at Budgewoi just after midnight, when they found the woman. It’s believed she is aged in her 40s or 50s, but she is still to be formally identified. 40-TONNES OF RUBBISH SPILT IN TRUCK ROLL

Emergency services are working to clean up approximately 40-tonnes of rubbish and building materials, after a b-double rolled on its side on the Central Coast. The incident occurred at around 11am, along the M1 near the north bound on-ramp at Somersby. Fire and Rescue New South Wales has contained a diesel spill, but is now working with a crew from the Rural Fire Service to clear the rubbish. CHILD ABUSE SQUAD INVESTIGATES AFTER INFANT HOSPITALISED

Specialist detectives from the Child Abuse Squad have begun an investigation after an infant boy was hospitalised on the Central Coast last week. At about 11pm last Tuesday, the seven-month-old was taken to Wyong Hospital suffering serious injuries to his head and body. He was later transferred to Sydney Children Hospital’s ICU, where he remains in a critical condition. Read More »
