Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist has arrived at his new home in Newcastle. The 5-year-old stallion was welcomed in Broadmeadow early this morning, where he’ll now be under the eye of local trainer Kris Lees. Lees says Protectionist will be spelled for the time being, before he begins preparation for the Autumn Racing Carnival in Sydney. Defending champions New South Wales have made the perfect start at the under-18 national hockey titles at Broadmeadow, beating Tasmania 4-nil.
