Kangaroos back-rower Beau Scott will be released from the final two years of his contract with the Newcastle Knights, on compassionate grounds. It means he’s free to officially sign a three year deal with Parramatta. He joined the Knights in 2013, after a move from St George, and has been one of the club’s most consistent players. “We wish Beau the very best for his future, both personally and professionally, and look forward to him returning to the field and leading our team throughout the remainder of this season,” CEO Matt Gidley said. Beau Scott has been ruled out of the Kangaroos’ Four Nations game against Samoa, due to injury. The Newcastle Knights forward suffered a low-grade hamstring tear during the Roos’ 16-12 win over England yesterday. The club today ruled the 30-year-old out of this weekend’s clash in Wollongong, after undergoing scans in Melbourne. With just seven NRL games under his belt, Newcastle’s Sione Mata’utia is set to become the youngest test player in Australian rugby league history. The 18-year-old has been named in the Kangaroos squad, making him the least experienced player in more than half a century to earn a call-up. Fellow Knight Beau Scott has also been selected. Parting Newcastle Knights coach Wayne Bennett has chosen Alex McKinnon and Beau Scott as recipents for his Coach’s Award. At last night’s club presentation, Bennett spoke fondly of the two, including how much he admired McKinnon’s strength of character after he suffered a spinal injury earlier in the year. “I was proud of him before the incident. Obviously he was special from the time I first saw him at the Dragons, but I’ve even been more proud of him now because he’s made our job so much easier for the way he’s conducted himself,” he said. Newcastle Knight, Beau Scott, has been named ‘Second Rower of the Year’ at last night’s Dally M awards. It caps off a successful season for the 30-year-old, which has seen him play in the New South Wales Origin and Country representative teams.
