We are in for a beaming week of sunshine. Today has been very warm and it will be even warmer in northern New South Wales and south east Queensland tomorrow. As we move through the week, the only difference will be a drop in temperature. Cool to cold, dry south westerly winds will be with us for some time including this weekend as the sunshine rolls on. Some very nice surfing conditions are on the way as well. Read More »

There’ll be a foggy start tomorrow for most, before a warm, sunny day unfolds with north west to north east winds. Through the week, expect plenty of sunshine with cooler, drier, south westerly winds. This will give the coast a chance to dry out, while the drought rages on Inland. It will be a good week for surfers with fun waves to be had. Read More »

We’re experiencing some very warm temperatures across the region today. When it gets unseasonably warm you can almost guarantee some form a of a change is on the way. There is a mass of cloud making its way across the country at the moment. That high level cloud will start to steal the sunshine across the Hunter tomorrow. The cloud cover will spread north across the broadcast region during Saturday. A cold front will then collide with this warm, moist air, producing rain which will start to fall Saturday night. This will make for a wet Sunday for everyone. Widespread moderate to heavy falls are likely, very similar to Easter Saturday in fact. An east coast low is expected to form Monday into Tuesday, whipping up another big swell, strong winds and coastal rain. Read More »

This weekend we will see partly cloudy skies and a few brief showers roll in across the coast, as the inland areas of the Upper Hunter and North West remain dry. Temperatures will be around the mid-20s for most and this trend will continue into next week. The big swell on the coast will abate, but conditions will remain quite rough. Read More »

The first snow of the season has fallen on the Central Tablelands at Oberon and Orange this afternoon, as an intense low spirals over southern New South Wales and Victoria. This will pump cold, dry air north. It will get windy with gale wind warnings issued for the Hunter and strong wind warnings elsewhere. Expect some very cold nights and frosty mornings, but it will be mostly sunny for the next couple of days until coastal showers settle in at the end of the week. Read More »

Cyclone Pam is still intensifying while moving south in between Fiji and the Solomons. Cyclone Nathan is also intensifying, moving towards the northern tropical Queensland coast. The tropical low off Western Australia is likely to become a cyclone off the Pilbara coast. Northern New South Wales was under a ribbon of cloud today thanks to a slow moving trough. Some light rain fell inland north of the Gwydir highway. An active day of afternoon storm and shower development is expected over the southern areas of the North West, affecting areas around Tamworth to the Upper Hunter. Some storm cells will build over the ranges and push towards the Mid North Coast across Taree and the Manning tomorrow afternoon. Elsewhere a mostly fine day is expected. The wet weather is set to build along the New South Wales and south East Queensland ... Read More »

Storm development was quite widespread across the North West today, producing valuable rain to a selected few on the land. Rain is very much needed and tomorrow there should be more storm development across the North West, the Tablelands and Upper Hunter. It’s still very humid for the Central Coast, Hunter and areas to the north on the eastern side of the divide. A few afternoon showers are likely across the Northern Rivers as well. Read More »

PHOTO: Bar Beach in Newcastle by Kim Jones. Storms dumped 50 to 65 millimetres around Coffs Harbour, Grafton and Woolgoolga yesterday and more storms have flared up around those areas again today. Humidity levels are high east of the Divide once again, and more patchy shower and storm development is likely tomorrow across northern New South Wales. Read More »

A succession of fast-moving fronts, and now an intense low in the Tasman, is generating a solid swell pummeling the New South Wales coast. The swell is going to remain big across the weekend. Winds have been quite favourable to produce some epic surfing conditions, but strong rips and huge sets are making for dangerous conditions. The weather is looking pretty good. The risk of showers is going to to remain on the small side for the northern New South Wales coast, so most of the broadcast region can expect a fine, mostly sunny weekend. Read More »

Garry Owens WA weather

This is my favourite time of the year and the first week of March is living up to expectations. Mornings have been cool and the days sunny and warm. The only catch is, it’s getting hotter inland, exacerbating the drought situation. An early Autumn heatwave is unfolding across the nation’s interior and some of that heat is spilling across the North West. It’s also affecting inland areas such as the Upper Hunter and cities like Taree, Kempsey and Grafton. The coast will be fanned by gusty afternoon seabreezes. Ocean temperatures are warm so it’s great for a swim. The fine run should continue for most of the week. Read More »
