The Hunter combination of Craig Bird and Isaac Heeney kicked the Swans to victory in their final pre season game against GWS. With scores tied in the final minute, Heeney took a vital mark. “It’s a big catch here, that’s a big one taken by Heeney.” The ball eventually found its way forward to Bird, who got his shot away just in time. “Quick kick, snap, before the siren, it’s a goal to Bird, it’s a win to the Swans with a second remaining.” Bird’s effort has enhanced his chances of featuring in round one against Essendon, while 18 year old Heeney continues to impress. “He’s just a competitor, whether he’s forward, midfield or back … he’ll certainly play senior footy this year.” Read More »

Cardiff product Isaac Heeney has taken another step forward in his AFL career, playing in red and white for the first time in the Swans’ pre-season clash with Brisbane in Coffs Harbour over the weekend. The 18-year-old admits the game represented a huge step-up in class for him. “The intensity’s one thing and the speed of the ball, the way it moves up and down the ground, you switch off for a second and the players have got the ball and they hit a score on you.
