Coal Point boxer Rocky Jerkic has high profile opponents lining up to challenge him, following his impressive third round knock out of Adrian Campbell on Friday night. Campbell had never been taken down in 30 previous fights. Jerkic was due to travel to the US following the bout, but is now likely to step back into the ring in Newcastle in around two months. Manny Siaca, a former world champion from Puerto Rico, who’s gone toe to toe with both Danny Green and Anthony Mundine, has offered to fight the 27-year-old for his WBA Asia junior middleweight title. The Newcastle North Stars have beaten the Canberra Brave seven goals to four, to complete a winning double at home on the opening weekend of the Australian Ice Hockey League season. Brian Bales got the home side on the board early in the first period. [Notes:20 secs] Two of the North Stars imports combined for the second. Two-nil soon became three, as Luke Moffat grabbed a goal of his own. The Brave managed to hit back late in the period, but Newcastle was always in control. The Knights’ Jeremy Smith has accepted a grade one tripping charge following the clash with the Cowboys and will be free to face Manly in round nine. Meanwhile Jarrod Mullen has been ruled out of the Country side after he suffered a concussion against North Queensland. Fresh from their win over the Bulldogs yesterday, the Knights Nathan Ross and Chanel Mata’utia have been named in the New South Wales Cup representative side. Mata’utia and his brother Pat combined for three tries against Canterbury, while Joseph Tapine set up two.
