WEATHER UPDATE: SOUTHERLY CHANGE ON ITS WAY

A southerly change is going to quickly make its way up the coast spreading inland across the NW tomorrow. Strong wind warnings have been issued for Hunter waters. Some cloud will finally form across the NW but shower development will be next to nothing. We will see showers develop across the Central Coast and Hunter before spreading north up the coast into the evening with a storm or two possible. Onshore SE winds are going to be a feature this week with the shower activity confined to the eastern slopes and coastal areas. Read More »

WEATHER UPDATE: HOT, DRY WEEKEND FOR MOST

More blistering temperatures for the NW and Upper Hunter this weekend under bright blue dry skies. Most of the coast will be fine only the slight risk of a shower or two for SE QLD which is still under a blanket of cloud which did break up a little across the Northern Rivers today. There’ll be a slight wind shift to the SE for the Hunter otherwise onshore E winds will dominate. Small swell for the weekend and big tides due to the New Moon. Read More »

Well not too much is going to change in the forecast. The Northern Rivers and SE QLD still cloud affected over the next couple of days as the sunshine and heat continues across the NW and Hunter. HOLIDAYS OVER, SUMMER HEAT ROLLS ON

The mercury is back on the rise once again getting hotter each day across the NW and Upper Hunter, the heat has also begun to spread north across the mid north coast. Hunter residents, are benefiting from the strong afternoon seabreeze. There’s been plenty of cloud across the Northern Rivers and South East Queensland producing the occasional shower and this trend for the region is set to continue. Coastal showers will increase by the middle of next but no rain is expected inland across the North West at this point. Read More »

Walgett hit an incredible 39.1 degrees today making it the hottest on record. Other towns to break records include. Coonabarabran 44 degrees hottest Jan day in 56yrs. Mungindi 48 degrees hottest Jan day in 38yrs. Gunnedah 45 degrees hottest Jan day in 11yrs. Moree 47 degrees hottest Jan day in 18yrs. Narrabri 48 degrees hottest Jan day in 11yrs. Tamworth 44 degrees hottest Jan day in 20yrs. On the Tablelands. Armidale 37 degrees hottest Jan day in 17yrs. Glenn Innes 37 degrees hottest Jan day in 16yrs. Guyra 34 degrees hottest Jan day in 29yrs. Inverell 41 degrees hottest Jan day in 45yrs. Another extremely hot night on the way for northern NSW and SE QLD with relief on the way thanks to a southerly change tomorrow with temperatures soaring with very dangerous bushfire conditions ahead of its arrival. WEATHER UPDATE: OPPRESSIVE HEAT

Extremely hot conditions have spread across the region. What has made it feel even hotter is the moisture from ex-Cyclone Christine mixing with the heat creating higher humidity levels than normal. Some showers have manage to reach the ground before evaporating but the majority of the rain has been virga. When this weather set up happens we usually get the hot dry desert air which can help it feel a little cooler than what it actually is. With higher humidity levels the heat feels heavy and can be oppressive. A weak change will cool Newcastle and the Central Coast this evening pushing further north to the MNC but is unlikely to push mush further north. 2014 is going to get off to a hot start. Cloud is going to build though as the remnants of ex Cyclone Christine makes it’s way across the country. Some showers and storms will try to form over the ranges but a lot of that rain will evaporate before it reaches the ground, it’s called virga.
