As the winds ease the nights will get colder. Morning fog and frosts will also become a feature. The days will get warmer while remaining sunny. There are some showers in the forecast for the weekend but that activity mostly for the far north coast and SE QLD will be minimal. Read More »

WEATHER UPDATE: COLD BLAST CLOSING IN

Weather Jenny Hill Walcha Apsley river

PHOTO: Jenny-Hill’s pic of a very frosty Apsley River in Walcha. It has become very mild ahead of the next polar blast pushing through on the weekend. Saturday will start out fine but cloud will increase along with the NW winds. Patchy rain will develop, mostly falling on the western side of the Divide but totals will once again be small. Overnight into Sunday the winds will continue to increase switching to the SW during the day and the cold air will move in dropping temperatures. NORTH COAST SURF REPORT 27-06-14

Jeeze there are a lot more girls in the water these days, even mums are among the most keen in the lineup’s I reckon. Today at Macauleys in Coffs it was a pair of mums leading the charge of half a dozen girls for a pre school holiday surf in small but clean waves. The wind was a light nor wester which is perfect for the open beaches on the Coffs Coast, unfortunately the half metre SE swell is predicted to drop over the weekend. Cheers, noel. Read More »

Bob from Dora Creek

PHOTO: Dora Creek mid-winter sunrise snapped by Bob.  Central Australia has been so sunny that a bit of warmth has built up. That will be flushed out ahead of the next big polar blast set to move through on the weekend. Friday will be very nice and Saturday will get off to comfortable start as well. From there gale force winds will return to the Hunter and the temperatures will plummet. Snow flurries may occur across the northern ranges and Barringtons Saturday night into Sunday. It is then the winds will peak making for a very cold start to next. Read More »

WEATHER UPDATE: POLAR WINDS TO CONTINUE

merewetherowenwalshweather

PHOTO: Merewether Beach by Owen Walsh. More cold polar air is going to sweep in across SE Australia. These polar winds are more noticeable the further south you travel. This is great news for the ski resorts during the school holidays as lots more snow is on the way. Another very strong system will pass on the weekend with some snow flurries possible across the Northern Tablelands on Sunday. Winds will be strong, temperatures low, wind chill factor high. So stay rugged up and be prepared, those winds will likely cause more damage. Read More »

WEATHER UPDATE: POLAR ROTATION MOVES INTO HIGH GEAR

stockton breakwall nobbys weather GLen Cox

PHOTO: Stockton Breakwall by Glen Cox. A week long run of blizzard conditions building and easing are set to unfold plunging us into winter. Little to no precipitation is expected locally, just cold, windy mostly sunny days. For the SE it is a different story as the rain turns to snow launching the 2014 ski season into the stratosphere. A half a metre of snow from the first blast and with more to follow. The system set to move through on the weekend may be stronger than this one. Read More »

NORTH COAST SURF REPORT 20-06-14

Warm summery, um.. I mean wintery conditions here today. Brilliant blue waters brushed clean by a light NW breeze on a half to one meter swell. Unfortunately poor quality banks at most spots spoiled the scene with few quality waves to be had. Our pics were taken at Macauleys in Coffs just before lunchtime and make it look much better than it actually was, so I was told. A dying swell predicted over the weekend is sure to disappoint with mostly sunny days ahead. Cheers, noel. Read More »
