gavin

An intense east coast low is forming off the New South Wales Mid North Coast and will unleash the majority of its energy between the Central Coast and Manning, with the Hunter taking the biggest hit. A severe weather warning has been issued and flooding is expected on the Paterson and Williams Rivers. Localised flash flooding is also likely, while huge dangerous swell will develop with gale force winds reaching 100km/h along the Newcastle coast. The low is expected to retrogress or move back towards the coast which will intensify conditions. The wild weather will ease on Wednesday. Take care. Read More »

WEATHER: RAIN ON THE WAY

taree_weather_web

We’ve had a very warm week, ahead of a rain band that has already delivered record-breaking falls across parts of South Australia. Some locations have recorded their best April rain in 100 years of records. The cloud cover associated with this system could be seen in Newcastle and the Hunter today. Tomorrow it will spread further north and rain will start to fall Saturday night, before moving across the NBN broadcast region during Sunday. On Monday, an east coast low is expected to form and it could be a nasty one. East coast lows are at their most dangerous when they retrogress or move in a westerly direction back towards the coast once formed. The longer they sit on the coast the more damage they can do, especially if all its energy is released over one area, something that happens if ... Read More »

WEATHER: WEEKEND RAIN ON THE WAY

weathervallabeach

We’re experiencing some very warm temperatures across the region today. When it gets unseasonably warm you can almost guarantee some form a of a change is on the way. There is a mass of cloud making its way across the country at the moment. That high level cloud will start to steal the sunshine across the Hunter tomorrow. The cloud cover will spread north across the broadcast region during Saturday. A cold front will then collide with this warm, moist air, producing rain which will start to fall Saturday night. This will make for a wet Sunday for everyone. Widespread moderate to heavy falls are likely, very similar to Easter Saturday in fact. An east coast low is expected to form Monday into Tuesday, whipping up another big swell, strong winds and coastal rain. Read More »

NORTH COAST SURF REPORT 10-04-15

Solid six foot sets pumped through over night on the Coffs Coast. Bombies breaking offshore and boards broken onshore this morning in Coffs. Our pics show a hardy bunch of surfers picking off a few good rides at Park Beach despite the strong south west winds and sweeping north currents. The winds calmed and the swell dropped during the day as temperatures rose thanks to sunny conditions while there were plenty of good waves to be had in the more protected southern corners and points. Should be a good weekend for waves, enjoy. Cheers, noel. Read More »

HUGE SWELL

WEATHER_CHAT_GAV_WEB

Most beaches have been closed in between the Central Coast and Port Macquarie including Newcastle beaches thanks to the huge swell being generated by an intense low which is now moving further offshore. As it pulls away from the coast the wind will move around to the SE and a few isolated showers will drive in across the coastal fringe for the next few days. Inland will remain fine and dry across the weekend. See the attached video for more detail. Read More »

The winds will ease and the sun will shine warming things quickly through the day. There is high level cloud moving across the nation, shearing off Cyclone Ikola which is weakening quickly. Over the weekend the coast will also be affected by cloud thanks to light, onshore winds triggering a few isolated showers. Read More »
