The mercury is back on the rise this week. It will get hotter and hotter each day for most of the region, peaking across the weekend. A stalled trough is going to make for some interesting days on the northern ranges with storms expected to fire up each afternoon with the potential to reach the Northern Rivers and SE QLD. We may have some good news for some decent rain early next week and there’s more rain possible as we roll through the remainder of November. Read More »



An absolute scorcher across the region today and it is going to get hotter for northern New South Wales and south east Queensland tomorrow. Today we witnessed some incredible extremes. At 2:30pm Williamtown registered 39 degrees, while Nobbys Head was just 24 thanks to the seabreeze which didn’t push very far inland. Tomorrow the low 40s are expected across the the North West Plains with a top of 43 forecast for Moree. The cool change will fight with the hot air, driving back up the Valley through the day with high cloud increasing. Across northern New South Wales it will be hotter than today until the cooler air moves through during Sunday. Read More »

Extremely hot desert air is on its way, pushing the mercury towards the 40s across the North West Plains to the Hunter. The MNC will also feel the heat, along with the inland areas of the Northern Rivers. Sea breezes will help fan the coastal communities. Friday night will be very hot before a slow moving change moves in across the Hunter on Saturday triggering some wet weather, but the fall will generally be quite small. Further north, Saturday will be the hottest day for north east New South Wales. South east Queensland will feel the heat all weekend. Read More »

PHOTO: Thanks to Dee Hartin for this snap of Casino on the north coast. The coast and valleys on the eastern side of the divide have enjoyed a cool reprieve ahead of a very hot end to the week. There has been no break from the heat across the North West plains. The extremely hot air from central Australia will starting creeping further eastward from tomorrow, moving back in across the North West and Upper Hunter. Friday will be extremely hot before a cooler change delivers some rain late Saturday. Further north, the hottest day will be on the Saturday, waiting until the change pushes through on the Sunday. PHOTO: Thanks to Arek Daniel for this great photo of a storm at Elermore Vale. Spring storms have been flaring up consistently on and near the northern New South Wales ranges and border towns. They have again fired up this afternoon in the far north. The coast is cooler thanks to the latest southerly which has produced a cover of cloud jammed up against the eastern side of the Divide. The North West Plains are again extremely hot and that pool of hot air sitting over central Australia will begin to move eastward from Thursday. On Friday and Saturday temperatures will hit the high 30s and 40s for most, with dangerous bushfire conditions expected, especially in the Hunter. Read More »

Today the southerly freshened across Newcastle and the Central Coast, pumping in cloud but no rain. Elsewhere across the region it’s been sunny and warm to hot, particularly inland. The southerly will continue to move north. This, combined with a stalled trough line, is going to produce showers and storms mostly across the higher ground of the Northern Ranges, with some activity spilling off to the west over the slopes and east across the Northern Rivers and south east Queensland. Later in the week expect some extreme heat across the Hunter, Mid North Coast and North West, with Friday being the worst. Read More »


Newcastle Beach Weather Karynne Lawler

After a weekend change delivered cooler conditions the heat is set to rebuild. Getting a little hotter tomorrow with a couple of showers and small storms developing over the mountains of the Great Divide. They will be triggered by another pre-frontal trough as another change is gong to move through on Wednesday/Thursday triggering more widespread wet weather in the form showers and storms after a warm to hot day. After that passes the heat rebuild once again reaching the mid 30 inland and across the Upper Hunter by the weekend. Read More »

Things are set to heat up even further for the first day of November. Tonight a cluster of storms will track over northern NSW. They will clear and tomorrow gusty NW winds will kick in. Total fire bands have been issued for the Greater Hunter, Mid North Coast and NW Plains. Temperatures will climb into the high 30s inland while the coast gets hit with a strong seabreeze capping off temperatures in the high 20s. A front will move in Saturday night triggering more storms sweeping in across the Hunter first before spreading further north. From Sunday cooler air will spread across the broadcast region dropping temperatures for the start of next week. Showers will linger across the NSW north coast and SE QLD.
