THOUSANDS EXPECTED AT HASLAM MEMORIAL

Thousands are expected to turn out in Tamworth tomorrow to say a final farewell to medicinal cannabis campaigner Dan Haslam. The 25-year-old sadly lost his battle with bowel cancer last Tuesday. Dan and his family made national headlines in April last year, when it was revealed he used cannabis as a way to alleviate chemotherapy symptoms. Their campaign was the catalyst for the announcement of a clinical trial of medicinal cannabis by the New South Wales government in September. TWO TEENS ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN AT ARMIDALE

Two teenagers have been arrested this morning following an attempted break-in at Armidale. About six o’clock police attended Butlers Lane, where two youths were reportedly acting suspiciously. A 13-year-old boy was charged with ‘break and enter with intent’. He’ll appear in children’s court on April 9. While a 15-year-old boy will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act. MOREE READY TO JOIN THE NORTHERN TABLELANDS ELECTORATE

As of the March state election, Moree will no longer be part of the Barwon electorate. Due to boundary changes, the town will become part of the Northern Tablelands. Mayor Katrina Humphries believes this is good news and her focus with the new MP will be on health, education and roads. “We really need to make sure that we get betterment done on the Gwydir Highway at the washpool and at Garah on the Carnarvon Highway. These were jobs that were promised three years ago, but hasn’t come through.” Mrs Humphries says it’s unacceptable Moree can still be cut off from two major highways when there’s heavy rain. Challenge Community Services were provided a new opportunity today, a football friendly against Tamworth FC. 11 players ran on to Johnson Field despite a disability, relishing the chance to share the pitch with some of the Northern Inland Premier League’s best players. Given a 50 metre wide goal, the Challenge outfit took the game to its opponents, regularly picking apart FC’s defence. While a score wasn’t kept, it was decided the charity organisation were the winners, earning itself the inaugural Tamworth FC Soccer Cup. (Vision not accompanied by audio.) Read More »
