WEATHER: SUN, SUN AND MORE SUN

We are in for a beaming week of sunshine. Today has been very warm and it will be even warmer in northern New South Wales and south east Queensland tomorrow. As we move through the week, the only difference will be a drop in temperature. Cool to cold, dry south westerly winds will be with us for some time including this weekend as the sunshine rolls on. Tamworth residents are being urged to attend a community meeting tomorrow night to discuss the future of the region’s water supplies. Council is currently undertaking a full review of its drought management plan and will hold a number of meetings across the region. Read More »

ELDERLY COUPLE INJURED IN HOUSE FIRE

An elderly couple has escaped with just minor injuries, following a house fire at South Tamworth. Police believe the pair was trying to start a log fire in their Warren Street home when the blaze started at around 6pm. Fire crews arrived a short time later to find the house well alight. They managed to rescue the couple from inside the home, before they were taken to hospital with minor burns. Read More »

NSW GOVERNOR TOURS YOUTH CENTRE

In a whirlwind trip to the North West, the Governor of New South Wales David Hurley visited Tamworth today. While heavy fog in the region this morning delayed Mr Hurley’s flight from Sydney, he arrived in Tamworth at lunch time to visit the newly completed Tamworth Regional Youth Centre. Mr Hurley and his wife toured the $3-million facility and met with staff. The governor was then presented with two shirts from youth services co-ordinator Stephen Blanch. “We just want to say thank you very much to everyone who’s involved in this. LANDCARE GROUP CHALLENGES SHENHUA OVER KOALAS

The Upper Mooki  Landcare group has launched a legal challenge against Shenhua Watermark’s proposed coal mine on the Liverpool Plains regarding its impact on koala populations. The group has lodged a judicial review case in the state’s Land and Environment Court against the Planning Assessment Commissions decision to approve the project. Chair of the group Nicki Chirlian says threatened species in the proposed area were not considered and the project will leave at least 262 koalas homeless. (VISION ONLY) Read More »

Through the week, expect plenty of sunshine with cooler, drier, south westerly winds. This will give the coast a chance to dry out, while the drought rages on Inland.
