GIRL APPROACHED IN NELSON BAY

Police are appealing for witnesses after a nine-year-old girl was approached by a man in Port Stephens. The girl was dropped off at her school by a neighbour on Wahgunyah Road in Nelson Bay yesterday morning. She got out of the car and turned around to grab her bag, when a man grabbed her. The neighbour told the man to go away and he walked off. The man is described as being Asian in appearance, about 168-centimetres tall with a chubby build and moles on his cheeks. It’s official, Newcastle has a new claim to surfing fame. The Guinness World Records has now officially listed the city as holding the record for the longest line of surfboards. It comes after its attempt on February 15, which saw 608 boards lined up, stretching 1.2-kilometres along Nobbys Beach. MAN CHARGED WITH HIGH RANGE DRINK DRIVING

A man has been charged after he was allegedly caught drink driving almost six times the legal limit on the Central Coast with his young daughter in the car. Police were called to Yattalunga yesterday afternoon, following reports a Mitsubishi sedan had left the road, struck trees and stopped in a ditch. Thankfully the 39-year-old driver and his 5-year-old daughter were uninjured. Police allege the man underwent a breath test and returned a reading of .287. His driver’s licence was suspended and he’s due to face Gosford Local Court on May 12. Read More »

MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

A man, who allegedly set fire to a Central Coast home with three children and three adults inside, has been charged with attempted murder. The six people managed to escape unharmed last Friday, but the house suffered extensive damage. A 68-year-old man was arrested at Wyong Hospital on Sunday, where he was being treated for burns to his feet. He’ll face court at a later date. Read More »

GROWING FEARS FOR THREE LOCALS MISSING IN NEPAL

Meanwhile there are growing fears for three Northern Rivers locals still missing in Nepal following the massive earthquake. 20 year-old Oliver Kohlenberg from Byron Bay was last seen in Kathmandu. While two local women travelling together have yet to make contact since Sunday’s disaster. 25-year-old Casino woman Ngaire (NEYE-A-REE) Seccombe’s brother Edward told NBN the family is hopeful she will pop her head up soon. Alongside her is 25-year-old woman Athena Zelandonii (zell-and-own-ee) from Goolmangar. Police are appealing for information after a Taree service station was robbed overnight. At around 10 o’clock the attendant at the Victoria Street business was threatened by a man, who demanded cash. He then drove from the scene in an older-model red Camry or Falcon. He’s been described as having an athletic build, wearing a pale jumper and grey cargo pants. Read More »
