PUPPIES BASHED AND DUMPED AT KURRI

In a shocking case of animal cruelty, seven puppies were bashed and dumped in bushland at Kurri Kurri. The RSPCA was called to the site off McLeod Road at around 5pm yesterday, where they found the tan and white-coloured Bull Arab cross puppies. Five died from critical head injuries, while two were in urgent need of treatment. Sadly, another died on the way to the vet. The RSPCA is appealing for anyone with information to come forward, after a witness reported seeing a red Holden Commodore with P-plates at the location. Read More »

TWO PEOPLE, ALLEGEDLY CONNECTED TO ARMIDALE’S DRUG TRADE ARRESTED

Two people, allegedly connected to Armidale’s drug supply trade, have been arrested. A 28-year-old Macksville man was arrested near Port Macquarie yesterday. He’s facing a raft of charges, including one count of large commercial drug supply of 3700 MDMA tablets. Two replica pistols, ammunition magazines and a bag of a white substance, believed to be amphetamine, were uncovered during house searches in Armidale and Macksville. MAN AVOIDS JAIL TIME FOR CHILD SEX CRIMES

A Kincumber man has escaped jail time after being convicted of child sex crimes in Newcastle Court today. Nathan Cunningham was found guilty of using¬†social networking sites to contact teenage boys and send indecent content to them. He was ordered to undergo rehabilitation. Cunningham was arrested at Gosford railway station last year after police assumed the identity of a teen online to catch him. Read More »

POLICE UNCOVER WYOMING DRUG LAB

Police are looking for two men aged in their twenties, who were seen running from a clandestine drug lab at Wyoming yesterday. Police were called to the partially dismantled drug lab at a house in Roselands Avenue, after reports of suspicious activity. A crime scene has been established and the premises was searched today by the drug squad. A number of items were seized from the house, where it’s believed methamphetamines were being manufactured. SMOKE BILLOWS ACROSS DUDLEY, DURING HAZARD REDUCTION BURN

Areas of Dudley were blanketed in thick smoke today, as the National Parks and Wildlife Service began a hazard reduction burn across 15 hectares of bushland in the Glenrock State Conservation Area. The controlled burn is designed to reduce the amount of ground fuel near homes, and weather permitting, it will continue until Friday. Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed to help keep smoke out of homes… and to drive carefully along roads where visibility is reduced. Read More »

DRUG LAB FOUND ON CENTRAL COAST

Police are appealing for information, after a clandestine drug lab was discovered on the Central Coast. Officers found the partially-dismantled lab in a home on Roselands Avenue at Wyoming yesterday afternoon, and again returned to the scene today. Police say at around 8:30 yesterday morning, two men aged in their mid 20s were seen running from the house. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact Crime Stoppers. MAN SENTENCED OVER RACIAL ATTACK

An Upper Hunter man has been jailed for racially abusing two Muslim women in Newcastle last year. Scott Papworth was today sentenced in Newcastle Local Court to a maximum of 12 months behind bars. The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to confronting a woman and her mother in their car on Smith Street last October, yelling abuse and punching a side mirror. He also admitted to punching a witness who came to the pair’s aid. Papworth will be able to apply for parole next month. Read More »

INVESTIGATIONS CONTINUE INTO ARMED ROBBERY

Police have released several photos of two men on a motorbike, as part of their investigation into an armed robbery at Mayfield West last year. At around 6pm on Boxing Day, a man threatened staff with a firearm at the Supercheap Auto store on Maitland Road. He then fled with some cash and jumped on the back of a motorbike as a pillion passenger across the road. Police say the pair travelled through Warabrook, into the grounds of the University of Newcastle campus and then to Birmingham Gardens. They also believe the motorbike was in Shortland before and after the robbery. The first man is described as being Caucasian, aged in his late 20s with a number of tattoos on his left arm and leg, while the second man is believed to be in his 20s with a slim build. ...
