LOCAL LEAGUE CLUBS IN DRUG SCANDAL

Two local rugby league clubs have been embroiled in a doping scandal. The pair of “a-grade” players – from the Southport Tigers and the Tugun Seahawks – have been handed two year bans after testing positive to performance enhancing drugs. The tests were conducted by the Sports Anti-Doping Authority last year after the Bycroft Cup semi final between the two teams. Queensland Rugby League has issued a statement, saying “we make no apology for the testing regime to ensure we keep drugs out of the sport.” Read More »

TITANS 5 CLEARED TO RETURN

The five Gold Coast Titans players caught-up in the NRL cocaine scandal have been cleared to return to first grade duty. Greg Bird, Dave Taylor, Beau Falloon,Jamie Dowling and Kalifa Faifai will be availbale to play the Knights on Saturday. The players were stood down when it emerged they were facing cocaine supply charges. The Titans’ board sought independent legal advice which concluded the players should not be disciplined until after the legal process had run its course.
